Women of Color Caucus Leadership Summit to Take Place Friday, August 13th
Rest as a Radical Movement

On behalf of the Women of Color Caucus of Ohio:

Join us for our 2021 WOCC Leadership Summit -- "Rest as a Radical Movement," being held on Friday, August 13th from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
Although we aren't able to be in community this year, we will still have dynamic speakers, celebrations, and self-care specific to our needs. We will also be sending out goodie bags to the first 100 registrants so please be sure to include your home address in the personal information field via online registration.
Register in advance for the Summit below. After registering, you'll receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Keynote Speaker: Sumayya Coleman
9:00am to 11:00am

Known in many communities as “Sumayya Fire”, she uses her social justice ministry platform to shine light on injustice and policy issues and magnify marginalized voices in African American communities.
During the afternoon session, you will have an opportunity to enjoy one of the workshops listed below:
  • Managing Stress and Healthy Living presented by Darla M. Character-Johnson, Esq.
  • My Poems Don’t Rhyme: The Healing Power of Words presented by Carla A. Thompson
  • Coloring My Path: Women of Color in Entrepreneurship presented by Aziah Chavers
  • Self-Care is Self-Love presented by Charity Butler

We look forward to seeing all of our sisters in the movement there!
Upcoming OAESV Trainings, Events, & Meetings
Here's what's going on in August at OAESV:
  • Next is our First Friday Legislative Update, taking place on 8/6. Director of Public Policy & External Affairs, Camille Crary, give a tutorial on how to draft an op-ed, and there will be a 'bonus' tutorial from 2-2:30pm about writing letters to legislators. Register by clicking the button to the right.

  • Join us for our August Monthly Member Webinar on August 11th from 12-1:30pm. This month's topic is "Exploring Title IX in 2021 & Beyond".

  • We will continue to hold a space the 3rd Wednesday of each month for prevention staff to discuss their work. If you are working in prevention, consider joining us for our Critical Conversations online meetings. You can register on oaesv.org/Events. The next meeting is 8/18 from 2-3pm.

  • The Ohio Co-Conspirators in Ending Oppression is hosting their monthly Putting Conversations Into Practice session on Wednesday, August 18.

  • The Thirsty Thursday call for SART Chairs and Co-Chairs will be on August 19th.

  • Regional Meetings for sexual violence programs will be held virtually August 24-26th. There will also be a training for all regions on August 31st. More info on that training coming soon.

  • Ohio Survivor Legal Assistance Clinic Virtual Office Hours will be August 26 from 12:30-2:30pm.

  • The Ohio Survivor Legal Assistance Clinic will also be offering in-person brief advice clinics at various locations around the state on multiple dates, starting August 31st.
Tickets Now On Sale for OAESV's 7th Annual Fundraiser
Like our 2020 event, this year’s fundraiser has two parts – the first is a silent auction, opening 9/10 at 10:00am and closing at 12:15pm on 9/18. And the second is a virtual community call-to-action to raise awareness of sexual violence, highlight the work being done across the state, and generate support for OAESV.

The live virtual event will also feature keynote speaker Tony Porter, who brings a perspective of engaging men and boys in the anti-sexual violence movement, as survivors and as those who can help end sexual violence in our communities. Will you join us to drive change in our communities? We ask you to purchase a ticket to the event, bid on auction items, and/or tell your friends and family about why you think they should support our fundraiser.

Remember that rape is a public health epidemic in Ohio with approximately 743,000 adult women survivors in our state. About one in five children will be sexually abused before they turn 18 years old, and rape continues to be the most under-reported crime in the state of Ohio.

Thank you for considering! Sponsor and get your tickets at www.oaesv.org/STLTickets, and bid on items at www.oaesv.org/STLAuction. As a supporter of this event, your contribution builds upon the helpful yet restrictive grant funding we receive throughout the year. Your ticket and auction purchases help us provide even more services to Ohio’s advocates, survivors, and communities.
Thanks for reading! Feel free to forward to a friend.
