Viking Cruise Lines Coming to Houmas House in 2022

Los Angeles (April 16, 2020) – Viking (www.viking.com) today opened reservations to the public for its new Mississippi River cruises, which will launch in 2022. The company’s first custom vessel, Viking Mississippi, will debut in August 2022 and will sail voyages on the Lower and Upper Mississippi River, between New Orleans and St. Paul. Viking’s arrival will bring modern river cruising to the Mississippi and will represent a major commitment to tourism and economic development in many communities along the river. Currently scheduled ports of call on Viking’s new Mississippi River cruises comprise seven U.S. states: Louisiana (Baton Rouge, Darrow, New Orleans and St. Francisville); Mississippi (Natchez and Vicksburg); Tennessee (Memphis); Missouri (Hannibal, St. Louis); Iowa (Burlington, Dubuque and Davenport); Wisconsin (La Crosse); and Minnesota (Red Wing, St. Paul). As part of an exclusive preview promised by Viking Chairman Torstein Hagen, past Viking guests have been able to book the new Mississippi River cruises since March 30, 2020 and some departure dates are already nearly or completely sold out. Is Houmas House Haunted?

Do you believe in ghosts? Some visitors claim they have seen spirits around Houmas House. I can't imagine the Estate is haunted, but here is a recount of several stories shared with us over the years.
When Houmas House was undergoing renovations in 2003, a worker from the electrician's crew was the first to report that he had seen a young girl descending the freestanding stairway, and later in the large central hall. His concern expressed to co-workers: the house was a construction zone and unsafe for children, especially a girl of 7-10 
years.
Working into the evening hours, two others in the crew saw the little girl in the blue dress with dark eyes and brunette hair. But before they could confront her, she was gone.
A cursory check of the legion of workers who came and went each day produced no identity for the little girl, or any claim to her. As work wound to a conclusion, no other sightings occurred. In the brief interim between the completion of reconstruction and work on the grounds to prepare the property for the arrival of tourists, the house was quiet again for a few weeks.
Latil's Landing Reopened for Group Dining

The tables are set and the candles lit! Latil's Landing is taking exclusive dining to a whole new level. Why have a meal when you can have a dining experience?

Started September 18th, the restaurant opened each dining room for one small group per seating.

Diners have a private room in the original 1770's French House while enjoying a custom 5 course tasting menu, available with wine pairings.

For a minimum of 8 people this option is by reservation only and should be made 5 days in advance.

Each dining room overlooks the circular glowing fountain in a courtyard surrounded by lighted gardens.

Executive Chef Jeremy Langlois personally works with each party to create the perfect menu for dinner.

'Beyond the Boat'

Between the bayous and the River and the coast, and all the streams and bodies in between, Louisiana’s identity is one indelibly tied to its water. For centuries the intricate and uniquely inundated landscapes of this swampy state on the coast have by turns compelled and constrained the ways in which we live here. Our relationship with the surrounding waters has dictated our architecture, our traditions, our economy, and—perhaps most powerfully—our cuisine.  
At our October 2020 “Beyond the Boat” Supper Club, presented in partnership with the Louisiana Seafood Promotion Board, our guests will both explore and celebrate the rich bounties of the local seafood industry, guided by the seasoned hands of Houmas House’s own Chef Jeremy Langlois.
 “We are so lucky to have been born here,” said Langlois. “With all of the magnificent food coming right out of the Gulf and our swamps—it’s so special to have this identity and food culture and all its uniqueness.”
