Important Information about Distance Learning starting
November 16
Per the school board decision from Monday, November 9, the Middle School will return to all distance learning starting on Monday, November 16. Students will no longer attend classes in person. The board will review this decision January 11, 2021.

We are returning to the 7 period schedule used previously in distance learning with one lunch/advisory time for all students.  Please see the schedule here.

We are seeking input from our parents/guardians, students and staff about what, if any, changes should be made to this schedule as we look at an extended period of time in distance learning. We want to hear about your priorities as we design the schedule going forward. Please take this quick survey to provide your input. Students were surveyed during advisory on Friday.

We are organizing another supply pick up. The anticipated dates for this are December 3 and 4. You will receive additional information closer to that time.

Note: the Middle School office will be open 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on days school is in session. Please call ahead and make an appointment (952-928-6300) if you need to visit the school.
MAP Testing for all students
MAP testing will be on November 18(math), December 2 (reading), and make-up testing on December 9. The morning session will be from 9 a.m.-noon for students in periods 1-4 and the second session will be 1-4 p.m. for students in periods 5-7. Testing is being held on Wednesdays so no classes will be interrupted. The students’ respective math and language & literature teachers will be sending them the link and reviewing the testing schedule and procedures.
If there are questions please email Omar Adams [email protected]

Check out books from the LMC
Check out books from the St. Louis Park Middle School library media center! Students can check out books and pick them up "curbside" (in the front entrance foyer). Book requests and holds can be made via our Destiny Catalog online. Instructions for how to request and hold books can be found here. We have many new books and thousands upon thousands of great middle school books both in English and Spanish. Students can check out books for pleasure reading and/or for school assignments using our new system. Please contact Greg Holmbeck, library media specialist, or Diane Vig with questions at [email protected] and [email protected], respectively.
Happy Reading!!

Word Wall
Today I asked students in one word, how they would describe their "school experience" so far.
The words listed above are what they gave me. The larger the word, the more times it was stated.

Enjoy!

Sara Route, new Music Teacher
Hi, my name is Ms. Route. I have a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in music education from the University of WI-River Falls. I have been teaching for 17 years and I'm so excited to be in St. Louis Park! I teach middle school choir and after teaching all different age levels, middle schoolers are my favorite.

I have one son, Bentley, who is 9 and takes up my free time. We like to travel, but since that wasn't really in the cards this summer, opted to do small adventures instead. This summer we made it to the Largest Candy Store in Minnesota, Duluth, and the lake we go to in Wisconsin to name a few. We also helped my parents with their garden and as always take care of our two cats, Louie and Ella (yes, they are named after the jazz greats). I enjoy cooking and have been trying my hand at new recipes. Baking is one of my favorite things and a big stress reliever for me. On the weekends you'll usually find me baking something yummy while listening to my favorite radio station the Current.

I have really enjoyed working at St Louis Park and getting to know such fun young people! I look forward to making beautiful music together!

New PowerSchool Code
Starting on November 16, teachers will have the option to use a new PowerSchool code, to indicate a student was logged in and “present”, but was unresponsive and did not participate during class. At the end of each day, a phone blast will be sent home to families notifying them that their student was unresponsive and did not participate in one of more of their classes that day . This is to be used as a tool for daily feedback and communication to parents/guardians to help let them know if their child was not at all participating in the class discussions, virtual chat, online activities, responding to the teacher if directly asked several questions, or if a student logged in for class but then left class before it was over, etc. Please communicate this with your student and talk about why their active participation is not only important for their learning, but also their connection to their teacher and classmates in a distance and hybrid classroom. This code in PowerSchool will be designated with an 'N", indicating "no participation/unresponsive" for that class period.
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Opportunity

St Paul Testing Site will offer Free Saliva COVID Tests
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is offering Minnesotans more and different options for COVID-19 testing by offering saliva testing in a growing number of locations across the state. The test is more comfortable than a nasal swab, and available at no cost to anyone who believes they need a COVID-19 test. Click here for more information.
