“Stay Home, Stay Safe” Extended to June 12

Late last week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer extended the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order to 6/12/20 and extended the state of emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic to 6/19/20. These extensions keep places of public accommodation closed and limit public gatherings but continue to permit manufacturers and some sectors of the economy to resume in-person operations with the appropriate safeguards (see MMA’s COVID-19 Resources page for guidance and resources).

In issuing these orders, Governor Whitmer cited a recent Court of Claims ruling that determined she has the power to declare states of emergency and make executive orders pursuant to those declarations without the Legislature’s approval.

As Michigan continues the incremental process of re-opening the economy, MMA will continue to work with the Administration, legislative leaders and regulators to keep manufacturers safe, productive and in compliance. COVID-19 Manufacturing Industry Guidelines

MIOSHA launched a new webpage with safety guidance for a variety of workplaces, including manufacturing. Following the issuance of over 100 executive orders related to COVID-19, this new website is intended to help manufacturers and other employers locate and understand current requirements for workplace safety and health.

Take Action: Tell Congress
to Pass Liability Protections

Essential manufacturers should not be punished for doing the right thing. Tell Congress that essential manufacturers that worked throughout the pandemic deserve protections against bad-faith coronavirus-related lawsuits. Companies that take action should look for a follow-up from the NAM on how they can get more involved on this critical issue.
