Rector's Ramblings

I have a classmate from Sewanee who sends out a daily prayer email to a group from our graduating class. Every. Weekday. For the last the fourteen and a half years. This May will be the fifteenth anniversary of our graduation from seminary, and I think he's only missed a handful of days, due to technological problems like a dead computer. His prayers include a bit of scripture, and a series of prayer cycles. We rotate one of the graduating members of our class every day. We pray for a different country in the world each day. We pray for the School of Theology at Sewanee, and another seminary, every day. And we pray for classmates and seminary faculty/staff who have died since we graduated. It's remarkable, really. On the ten-year anniversary of these emails, we sent him flowers as a way of reinforcing how important his ministry to us is.

Mission
and Outreach

Volunteers Needed for the Advanced Reading Program at Burroughs Molette Elementary School
Pictured above are a few happy Advanced Reader (AR) participants at BME after a trip to the new Treasure Box  provided by the Mission and Outreach Committee at CCF. Children are rewarded for reading and successfully passing the AR tests for their book selections.

Reading well is an essential skill that children need to succeed in school and in life. Christ Church has partnered with Burroughs-Mollette Elementary School, in Brunswick, to implement a reading incentive program for the students there. That program is already bearing fruit!  For those interested in becoming involved in this project, there are multiple opportunities to read aloud to groups, help with the AR testing process, and interact with the students in the Media Center. If you would like to help with this mission, please contact Sarah Kreimborg at [email protected] or 912-222-6960 or
Tisa O'Cain at  [email protected]

If you've got some time on Tuesdays before packing days (see dates above) and you'd like to help with this crucial step in getting food to children in need, please contact Susan Shipman at [email protected] and join the pre-assembly team!
