Dear friend of PPP,
2020 has been a strange and challenging year for all, especially those that are
experiencing incarceration, and those faced with isolation due to mobility, health, or issues with PTSD. Though this year has certainly changed the way we do things at Prison Pet Partnership, we are so proud to have found ways to continue to serve our community through the human-animal bond.
This year we were able to:
- Certify and place 3 new Service Dog Teams, including placement within a court-involved youth program
- Re-certify 11 Service Dog Teams
- Provide vet-care to service-dog clients in need of financial assistance due to COVID-19
- Rescue, train, and place 12 pets in loving homes (Paroled Pet adoptions)
- Provide in-person and remote learning opportunities for 16 incarcerated women at WCCW
- Continue training for 8 service dogs-in-training
- Support several program graduates with post-release scholarship funds for education and supplies
Your support has an impact that reaches far and wide throughout our community. Join the annual global generosity movement, Giving Tuesday, on December 2nd with a gift to support the bright futures of our program participants, service dog clients, veterans, homeless pets, families, court-involved youth, and every life that our dogs touch.
Thank you for joining us in creating a brighter future for all this #GivingTuesday!

LEO & SHANNON
Sweet and sensitive Leo was certified and placed as a facility dog with Tacoma Community Boat Builders, an inspiring organization that works with court-involved youth. Leo has been making a difference with his knack for bringing comfort to those experiencing anxiety.

GARY & JIM
Another one of of our very intuitive and sensitive pups, Garrett, took the Spring off from work and enjoyed some time with our Volunteers Amy & Michael. He has since been re-certified and placed in a Pierce County Evaluation & Treatment Center for folks experiencing mental health emergencies. Gary loves going home with his human Jim at night, enjoying boating and family time!

MAYA & ELLEN & STEVE
Steve has been a client of PPP's for over 20 years! We placed his first service dog, Lucy with him in 1999! Ellen, his second service dog for the past 10 years was ready to retire and become a full-time pet (ahem, princess), and we were so proud that our smart and spunky Maya was ready to take on the reigns. Maya and Steve were officially certified this month. Maya assists Steve with his mobility and retrieval needs, so that he can live his best life as an educator, radio show host, husband and gardener. Check out his show about everything folks with disabilities CAN DO here!

FOREVER HOMES FOR PAROLED PETS
This year we were able to rescue and home 12 pets. Each spent time paired with an incarcerated trainer working on basic behavior and obedience skills, as well as learning how to trust and build human-animal bonds. Congrats to Gentry, Fenway, Cordi, Daesha, Jasmine, Theo, Hera, Caity, Ellie, Twilight, Shadow, and Annie and their new families!

LEARNING CONTINUES!
We've continued our commitment to discussing the intersectional issues that our incarcerated populations and marginalized communities face. We've held both socially-distanced in-person classes, as well as remote learning opportunities. Some resources that we have been exploring recently are:
We've also been focusing on disability studies, dog breeds, and the effects of trauma and PTSD. And there has been lots and lots of crafting to balance it all out!
