Caltrain electrification and other improvements are moving forward! As we work to upgrade our tracks for the new electric trains, there will be some temporary impacts to platform access. Electric train manufacturing continues to progress. Seat cantilevers and seat racks are being assembled, and two car shells are undergoing preliminary electrical testing (as seen above). There are now 19 cars in the final assembly stage, and manufacturing on car shells for trainset #4 has commenced. To view more photos visit CalMod.org/gallery.
Construction to make Caltrain a modern, electric commuter rail system continues! This month, crews continued installation of foundations as well as poles along the corridor from South San Francisco to San Jose. Work was also performed on six traction power facilities in San Jose, Redwood City, Sunnyvale, South San Francisco, and San Mateo.

MAJOR MILESTONE: CALTRAIN BOARD ADOPTS SERVICE PLAN VISION
Caltrain's Board of Directors adopted a long-term service vision on October 3, defining an ambitious plan for growing service over the next 20-plus years.
The Caltrain Business Plan's 2040 Service Vision lays out a vision for service that triples Caltrain's current ridership to 180,000 riders a day. It envisions express trains every 15 minutes, comprehensive coverage of local stations and greatly expanded frequencies in the middays, evenings and weekends over the full length of our system. It is a vision for a system with increased capacity, longer trains and level boarding.
The 2040 Service Vision is possible thanks to Caltrain Electrification and the ongoing work to transition the service from diesel operations to high-performance electric trains. It is a transformational moment for the railroad and it is also the first, foundational step in the realization of a larger future for Caltrain.

What Is CalMod?
The Caltrain Modernization Program (CalMod) includes electrification and other projects that will upgrade the performance, efficiency, capacity, safety and reliability of Caltrain's service. The current electrification project will electrify the corridor from San Francisco to San Jose and replace 75 percent of Caltrain's diesel service with high-performance electric trains, reducing air pollution and providing better service to more riders.
