Ena Rivera was hired as a Bus Operator for Metra Transit in 2016.
She transferred to an Administrative Secretary position in November 2018. In addition to having a CDL for driving, she possesses certification in the medical field. She feels that working with either of these has one major requirement – the need for good customer service.
|
|
Ena Rivera
METRA Transportation
|
In addition to various administrative duties as Administrative Secretary, Ena handles complaint documents, keeps track of the vault revenue, and assists other departments. Her job can be challenging when it involves trying to juggle more than one project at a time and prioritizing, since all of her duties are important. However, she has found the opportunity to learn a variety of skills on the job while helping others at the same time is very rewarding.
Ena’s parents were born in the Virgin Islands. They were hard-working and humble. She inherited much of her work ethic from them. She and David Rivera are the parents of two wonderful children, David III and Nyah. The family was stationed in Texas prior to relocating to Columbus, where her husband retired. Ena describes Columbus as “Like home, not overly-populated, and a perfect place to raise a family.” Her philosophy is “You only have one life to live, so make it incredible.”

November-
Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month
December 1st-
World Aids Day Observance
|
|
It is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 60 to 80 percent of all cases. It is also the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. This disease is a
type of dementia
that leads to memory, thinking, and behavior problems.
Alzheimer’s disease gets worse over time and eventually comes to a point where a person can no longer accomplish daily tasks. In the beginning, memory problems are mild, but as the disease progresses, patients become unaware of their environment and may no longer be able to carry on a conversation.
There are no drugs or treatments to cure Alzheimer’s disease, but there are treatments that can slow down its progression. Researchers are constantly looking for new treatments as they search for a cure for this mind-robbing disease.
Steps to take to fight this Disease:
Keep a Daily Routine – This helps to avoid confusion and lets the person know what can be expected. Alzheimer’s patients like routines.
Don’t Overstimulate – Keep things simple. Say one thing at a time. Present only one idea so that the person can understand it the best they can.
Be Reassuring – Always try to make the person feel safe and comfortable. Sometimes even saying the words, “You are safe with me” is enough to make that person feel at ease.
Don’t Yell or Argue – As frustrated as you may get, imagine how the patient feels. They can no longer grasp what is going on inside their own heads. Don’t yell or argue out of frustration. Be the calming voice they need.

World AIDS Day
was first observed in 1988
. Each year, organizations and individuals across the world bring attention to the HIV epidemic, endeavor to increase HIV awareness and knowledge, speak out against HIV stigma, and call for an increased response to move toward ending the HIV epidemic.
This day is not just about raising awareness of global HIV/AIDS statistics (although very important) but it’s about teaching the public the truth about the virus, how its spread, its symptoms and treatments. The number of HIV/AIDS cases have gone down dramatically since it first came onto the scene in the 80’s, but we are not done with HIV/AIDS. We have made it possible to live long, healthy lives with antiretroviral treatments, but HIV is still spreading and these treatments are not available to everyone. HIV continues to be a major global public health issue, having claimed over 35 million lives.
It is to educate ourselves, our friends and family on HIV/AIDS, it is equally important to know your own status.Show your support this World AIDS Day by wearing your red ribbon, educating yourself on the disease.

Holidays are soon approaching and we all enjoy them.
Spreading some love and holiday cheer is a great way to meet new people and reconnect with those that we have not seen all year.
Here are some great ways to spread that love and cheer!
-Handwrite a letter or card
-FaceTime/Skype an old friend
-Buy coffee for a stranger
-Pay it forward
-Leave a nice tip
-Invite someone over for dinner
- Bring some muffins or treats to the office
-Give a gift to a family in need
-Help the elderly in your neighborhood
There are so many ways to spread holiday cheer and love to others during this time of the year. Not only does it make them feel good, it also produces endorphins that make you feel good.
Don’t just make this a holiday thing, make it a year thing. It really matters.
Have a safe and enjoyable holiday season with your family and friends.
