Norma Cecilia Tanega
(January 30, 1939 - December 29, 2019)

Passing of an ICON

Artist/Musician Norma Tanega passed away in her sleep this weekend.

I was recently honored to curate Norma's last exhibition, a retrospective entitled SUPERNOVA this last April at the Ginger Elliott Center at Garner House.

The title of the show came from one of Norma's paintings. Supernova is an astronomical term for a star that explodes like crazy, an entirely appropriate description of Norma, although her humbleness would often keep her from acknowledging her brilliance and contributions to the cultural landscape.  Tanega will soon be featured as part of the Treasury of Claremont Music Project - check out the website HERE

Tanega's artistic offerings have made an indelible and signature imprint across several decades and continents, traversing diverse ethnicities and cultures.  Her ability to communicate in multiple genres and media is astounding. She will be greatly missed.
