New single dose pneumococcal vaccine guidelines
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has published new guidelines for pneumococcal vaccines for adults ages 19 and older. Advocate Aurora Health is preparing to adopt these guidelines for all settings where pneumococcal vaccines are administered. View SBAR for more details.

Updated COVID-19 pre-procedure testing guidance for patients: With declining rates of community spread along with widespread vaccine availability, we updated our COVID-19 pre-procedure testing guidance. Learn more and review guidance.

Advocate Aurora Health masking policy update: Given updated CDC guidance on masking, please note:
  • In Advocate Aurora hospitals, clinics and other health care settings, everyone over the age of two continues to be required to wear a mask.
  • In Advocate Aurora non-health care locations, i.e. office buildings, masking is NOT required, unless specified by the building ownership, in which case on-site signage will provide direction. However, masking continues to be recommended for those who are unvaccinated or immunocompromised.

OSHA COVID-19 safety inspections to begin this week: OSHA announced plans to inspect thousands of health care sites over the next 90 days to determine whether health care facilities have appropriate COVID-19 mitigation programs, protocols and procedures in place. Each inspection will likely last two to four days and focus on elements of OSHA’s COVID-19 Health Care Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS). Expanding Eligibility for EVUSHELD: EVUSHELD (tixagevimab/cilgavimab) is now available for patients who meet Category 1, 2, 3 and 4 criteria for the prevention of COVID-19 for those unlikely to mount a sufficient immune response to the vaccine and/or unable to receive the vaccine. Please consider your patients who are eligible for and may benefit from EVUSHELD and place a therapy order using the following process:
  • Review and confirm that your patient meets Category 1, 2, 3 and 4 criteria (see pgs 8-9).
  • Contact your patient to confirm their interest and consent.
  • Place a therapy order for EVUSHELD in the way your office typically places orders with Advocate Aurora Health – via Epic, phone or paper order. Please do not place a prescription order.
  • The patient will be contacted by staff at the nearest available Advocate Aurora EVUSHELD administration location to schedule an appointment.
