Senior Citizens Nutrition Program - Food Pick Up Program - will be on Monday, September 28, 2020 between 10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. located at The Friendship Center, at 1119 Newburgh Road. Frozen 5-pack and 5-pack shelf stable meals will be distributed. Reservations are required to reserve the meals, upon arrival at the distribution site, a form must be completed and you will be asked if you wish to reserve the 5-pack meal for the following week. You need to enroll in the program at 734-326-5202. You need to be 60 or older to qualify and will receive a box of food.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings via zoom. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

Parks and Recreation Advisory Council Meeting on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. at Westland City Hall located at 36300 Warren Road. Please click here for the agenda.
The Westland Historical Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. located at 857 N. Wayne Road.

Mack Mayfield Municipal Golf Course 2020 Fall Specials - It's not too late to get a few swings in before the snow flies at the Mack Mayfield Golf Course, located at 500 South Merriman. Beginning September 21, Weekdays - residents can golf with cart for $18 for non-residents $20, Weekends - residents can golf with cart for $20 non-residents for $22. Jefferson Barns Learning Lab, JBCVC Reading Room & Norwayne Boxing Gym are partnering to offer Free Distance Learning Support at Jefferson Barns Community Vitality Center - located at 32150 Dorsey on Monday- Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. for children in grades 3-12, for Wayne/Westland students only, registration is required. Reminder Census Count is until September 30th. An accurate and complete 2020 Census count is vital to the City of Westland. Census data is used to determine funding for programs and projects ranging from early childhood education to senior services. One of the most powerful things you can do for our community is to participate in the Census. Time is running out for the 2020 Season of the Westland Farmers & Artisans Market - located at 1901 N. Carlson. The Market will be open on Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Come out and get fresh produce, eggs, honey, jam, baked goods from our wonderful vendors. While there be sure to stop by and pick up a candle, hand-made face masks and much more. William P. Faust Library located at 6123 Central City Parkway has many fun activities for all ages. Grab Bag Craft stop by the library September 28 through October 3 and grab a bag with a mystery craft inside. The 2nd Annual Pumpkinpalooza - on Saturday, October 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Kids can decorate a pumpkin and enjoy a donut. Masks and registration are required! Call 734-326-6123 for more information. Online Kid's Book Talks - Every Wednesday tune into the kids' Facebook page, Westland Library Kids, to hear about an awesome chapter book! Senior Friendship Center will be offering Senior Citizens Flu Shot - located at 1119 Newburgh Road, on October 2, from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The shots will be given with appointments only for seniors 65 and older. Fire Prevention Week is October is October 4 - 10. This year's Fire Prevention Week theme, "Serve up Fire Safety in the Kitchen". The Westland Fire Department is working in coordination with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the official sponsor of the Fire Prevention Week for more than 90 years, to reinforce safety. This year's FPW campaign, "Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen!TM" works to educate everyone about the simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves, and those around them, safe in the kitchen.
