SAFCC
Community Cat Newsletter
Our vision is to have a community where no kittens are born wild on the street, no cat capable of living in a home is lacking one, and no feral cats are wanting for food, water, and appropriate care and concern.
June 2021| Issue 6
Now through the end of July, SAFCC's Community Cat Adoption Program has a sibling adoption special. Adopt a pair of siblings for the price of one!* If you have been considering adopting a kitten, now is the time!

CCAP currently has 500+ cat fosters in foster care. That's more than any other rescue in San Antonio. In fact, we have almost double the cats in our care than Animal Care Services! We desperately need to get our fosters adopted so we can reopen intake and save more lives!

Did you know that two kittens are easier to care for than one? Also, adopting a pair of kittens reduces anxiety for the kittens which prevents anxiety-related unwanted behaviors like crying loudly at night, eliminating outside the box, boredom and over grooming. Two is just better than one! Click HERE to view any of our adoptable cats or kittens.

*Kittens must be biological or foster siblings (coming from the same foster home ensures cats are acclimated to each other.) Questions? Email us at adoptions@sanantonioferalcats.org
Volunteers needed for our cat habitats
Our cat habitats inside Petco and PetSmart stores throughout San Antonio provide great visibility for our cats to be seen by potential adopters. These cat habitats are made possible by volunteers that clean and care for these cats. We have an immediate need for cat habitat volunteers at the below locations:

PetSmart:
Dove Creek – 415 W. Loop 1604 S Suite 119 SA, TX 78253
Petco:
Village at Stone Oak – 23014 US-281 #107, San Antonio, TX 78258
Terrel Plaza- 1211 Austin Hwy Suite #101, San Antonio, TX 78209

As a volunteer, your responsibility is to keep the habitats clean, feed and play with the cats. Volunteers dedicate 1-2 hours one day a week. The pet stores kindly provide the space, SAFCC provides the training and supplies, but the volunteers do all the cleaning and care of the cats while they are there. The cats coming into the cubbies are approved/vetted and placed there by our fosters. There are several cubbies at each of the cat habitats that provide a great opportunity to find families for our cats and also alleviate the strain for some our cat fosters.

If you're interested in helping at any of these locations, please fill out our volunteer form HERE.
Gratitude for our Cat Crisis Fund
Sandra was alarmed to see one of her colony cats that had visited for about three years not looking very well. The cat had drastically lost weight, but one particular night when Sandra went to feed the colony, this cat had an abnormal gait and was laying on the ground, not eating or drinking. The cat was so ill, Sandra was able to easily catch her, something she would normally not be able to do if the cat was feeling well. Sandra contacted SAFCC and we approved her
taking the cat to a local vet. Unfortunately, it was determined that the cat had a tumor and in great pain and so was euthanized. While it is always difficult to lose a cat, Sandra is glad that her colony cat was no longer suffering. Our Cat Crisis Fund provides urgent medical care for community cats that are ill or injured and is supported solely by donations. If you'd like to make a donation, please click HERE.
Adoption success for Noodle
In April we shared Noodle's story about how he came to SAFCC's foster program. Noodle and his sibling Dumpling were taken in as a cruelty case as both cats had what appeared to be acid burns on their face. Dumpling's injuries were so severe he did not survive, but Noodle persevered and even flourished in foster care, becoming a nice and healthy cat.

This month, we are happy to report that Noodle has been adopted! He is a spoiled kitty living the life. He is a friendly boy and gives no indication of his traumatic past. Thanks to our Community Cat Adoption Program and our Cat Crisis Fund, we were able to take in and help Noodle. Only happiness from now on for Noodle! Thank you to all who donate to our Cat Crisis Fund which provides care to sick or injured stray cats. You make stories like Noodle's possible.
Take the city budget survey and support ACS funding
The City of San Antonio is preparing for its 2022 budget and has created this survey to see what city services or programs are most important to San Antonio residents.
Please consider taking this quick survey and letting them know how important funding to Animal Care Services is! What would we do without the free spay/neuter provided by their Community Cat Program? Click HERE to get started.
Please donate to provide vet care for CCAP cats
This year SAFCC has had a record number of calls and intakes to help homeless cats and kittens! Our Community Cat Adoption Program has approximately 540 fosters, which means a significant increase in veterinary and emergency care expenses. To control medical costs, we have had to close intake and are unable to save any more kittens until we adopt out the ones currently in our care.

So far this year we have spent $24,000 treating illnesses and injuries (not including spay/neuter costs) compared to this time last year when we had spent $10,000. We desperately need your help to continue caring for these precious babies! The kitten pictured here is one of nine rescued from a hoarding situation. All had severe upper respiratory infections, but with great veterinary care and a lot of love from their SAFCC
fosters, they are making a complete recovery! Please donate today! Just click HERE to donate: Thank you!
Cat of the month: Hamlet
This two-year-old male grey/white tabby is Hamlet. He was living in a home when his mom moved out of state and left him behind. Hamlet couldn't stay there since no one was there to feed and care for him. Fortunately, a SAFCC foster was able to take in Hamlet, but he is still in search of his forever home.

Hamlet is a quiet, very sweet and loving guy who likes to sit or lay around just vegging out. He is no bother to anyone except when he wants rubs and to snuggle. He is just a big sweet guy. Hamlet is social with other cats but also likes his own space. He is very mellow and does not pick fights. Hamlet is FIV+ which is not easily transmitted between cats. Therefore, other than ensuring that there is no fighting and biting, most cats with FIV can live happily with one or two other cats and never spread their virus. If you are interested in Hamlet please email us at adoptions@sanantonioferalcats.org.
