The solution came in the
launch of
DRNJ-COVID.org
,
with the purpose of illuminating the work
Disability Rights New Jersey
has done during this crisis, as well as resources and policies impacting individuals with disabilities.
The new site provides answers to questions, enabling individuals with disabilities and their caregivers to educate themselves on the issues at the forefront of this crisis.
Funds from the
COVID-19 Emergency Community Law Grant
will help offset the expense of DRNJ-COVID.org and support advocacy efforts for the most vulnerable population of New Jersey residents: those living in institutions and group homes, those who rely on others to provide assistance in daily life, students in special education now learning remotely, and, most tragically, the sickest among us in hospitals and ICUs throughout the state.
The grant was awarded to nonprofit organizations such as
Disability Rights New Jersey
that provide free legal education to the public on areas of the law that have been directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the intention of expanding capacity to address the acute need for accurate and timely legal information.
"From the very beginning of this pandemic,
Disability Rights New Jersey
has taken the lead in ensuring that those with such needs are supported
,
represented, served, and heard,"
said
Gwen Orlowski, Executive Director
of the legal advocacy agency.
Disability Rights New Jersey
is grateful to the
New Jersey State Bar Foundation
for this financial support.
