Fight F.O.G. this Holiday Season
Fats, oil and grease (commonly referred to as F.O.G) can be found in the following:
- Meats (chicken, beef, fish, pork, bacon, turkey)
- Dairy products
- Cooking agents (lard, shortening, butter, cooking oil)
- Certain condiments (mayonnaise, gravy, salad dressing, sauces, icing)
- Food scraps
F.O.G. Buildup is Dangerous to You and the Environment
F.O.G. is not broken down by garbage disposals. When you pour F.O.G. down your kitchen sink, it enters the sewer system where it cools and eventually congeals into a solid “ball” of grease. These balls cause blockages in the sewer system, posing dangerous health and environmental risks and increasing costs for you, the customer. Blockages in the sewer system can cause raw sewage to back up into your home or your neighbors’ homes. Blockages can also spill into creeks, rivers, and streams, causing significant environmental damage.
Preventing Problems from Fats, Oils and Grease Buildup
Never pour fats, oils or grease in sink drains or toilets. You can prevent F.O.G by following these simple tips:
- SCRAPE grease solids directly into a lined trash can.
- POUR cooled liquid grease into a sealed container.
- WIPE remaining grease and debris with a paper towel and throw in the trash.

Chief's Corner - Operation Santa
Holiday Festivities bring out lights, sirens, and Santa!
While many 2020 events have been canceled or moved to virtual settings, the Beaumont Police Department is working to modify our holiday programs to maintain COVID compliance, but still bring some holiday cheer to our community.
If you are hearing a lot of sirens on Saturday, December 12th, don’t panic, it is all in good fun. During the morning hours, the Beaumont Police Department is hosting our annual Shop with a Cop Event. During this event, deserving children from the Pass area will be escorted by officers from the Banning and Beaumont Police Department’s to Walmart for some early Christmas shopping. It is a fun event for our officers to give back to our community and treat some special children to a day they won’t soon forget.
Later that evening, the Beaumont Police Department is hosting our annual “Operation Santa” event. Santa will accompany the Beaumont Police Department and volunteers from Festive Fire Engines and will make their way through the City of Beaumont on a pre-planned route to spread holiday cheer throughout the community. See the attached map for the areas we will be visiting. If we aren’t visiting your neighborhood this season feel free to stop along the route to wave hello as Santa makes his way through the city and back to the North Pole!
Don’t be discouraged if you will miss Santa on the 12th, our friends from the Festive Fire Engines will be visiting neighborhoods throughout December. Check out their Facebook page for their schedule and routes.
2020 has been a challenging year for our Nation, but we hope to keep our holiday traditions alive and end this year on a high note. We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy holiday!
Sean Thuilliez
Chief of Police
Beaumont Police Department

The recent Apple and El Dorado fires have left significant burn scars in the mountains north of Beaumont and the pass area. The regions downhill from a burn scar are particularly at risk from debris flows and flooding, including the northern areas of Beaumont.
Storm Ready Checklist:
- Review local flood and evacuation maps
- Register with Alert RivCo
- Check to see if you have flood insurance
- Check BeaumontCa.gov for upcoming public info meetings
Evacuation Zones and Maps
Riverside County Emergency Management Department (EMD) utilizes zones to alert residents of emergencies and to conduct evacuations. By knowing your zone, you will be able to quickly react when evacuations are called for. Some of the areas most affected have limited evacuation routes, so it’s important to plan ahead of time so that you can evacuate safely.
Emergency Alerts - AlertRivCo
Alert RivCo is used to alert Riverside County and Beaumont residents of urgent actions to take during disasters. Pay attention to these warnings to determine what you need to do and where to go. If you do not evacuate when evacuations are called for you could be isolated and trapped without help for several days.

Holiday Gatherings
Riverside County residents are asked to take precautions when celebrating Thanksgiving with smaller, shorter and safer get-togethers.
With the recent rise in coronavirus cases and COVID-19 hospitalizations, state health officials are urging residents to limit possible exposure to the virus by reducing the number of people they have contact with during Thanksgiving. While some may opt to have family gatherings, residents are urged to follow these recommendations:
-
Smaller – If you are going to meet during the holiday, keep the groups small and separate, even within a household. Avoid large gatherings.
-
Shorter – Keep get-togethers to an hour or two.
-
Safer – Don’t forget about basic safety: wear a mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands. Eat and socialize outside. Consider seating one family group on the patio, while another sits in a separate area. Keep plenty of hand sanitizer on hand. Avoid sharing serving utensils.
Travel Advisory
Persons arriving in California from other states or countries, including returning California residents, should practice self-quarantine for 14 days after arrival. These persons should limit their interactions to their immediate household. This recommendation does not apply to individuals who cross state or country borders for essential travel.
Limited Stay At Home Order
On Thursday, November 19, California Department of Public Health issued a The Limited Stay at Home Order to reduce opportunities for disease transmission with the goal of decreasing the number of hours individuals are in the community and mixing with individuals outside of their household. The order is effective November 21 - December 21 and prohibits non-essential activity between the hours of 10:00pm to 5:00am.

Please do not engage in overbuying when grocery shopping due to the tremendous strain it places on the grocery supply chain. Purchase only the amount you would reasonably expect to use; panic buying, hoarding and similar behaviors impact your fellow residents and complicate the current situation for others.
