Horizons transfers Mental Health program to Covenant Family Solutions
In a new partnership recently announced, Horizons will transfer its Mental Health services to Covenant Family Solutions of Marion. The move reflects Horizons' increased focus on senior food insecurity, transportation, and financial stability programs and will allow for continued growth in these areas.

"Horizons made this decision in the best interest of our patients and staff," said Horizons CEO Mike Barnhart. "Individuals and families will now have access to holistic mental health services that address all of their needs under one roof."

The transition, which began in September, will continue for a period of six months. Therapists formerly of Horizons have been retained by Covenant, with no elimination of jobs. Covenant has entered into a lease agreement with Horizons, allowing patients to continue receiving care at the agency's Cedar Rapids facility. Efforts are also being made to keep patients with their existing providers.
Senior nutrition focus of Iowa Gov. Reynolds visit to Horizons
Horizons hosted Kim Reynolds on Oct. 10, when the Iowa governor spent approximately 90 minutes observing Horizons' efforts to ensure that older adults in the Cedar Rapids community are fed.
 
The governor's experience with Horizons very rewarding, she said. "It was an opportunity for me to say 'thank you' to all the people that work hard every day to make this happen," according to Reynolds, who called what Horizons does extremely important to improving the quality of life for older Iowans. She added that the clients "were waiting and excited to see the individuals that were bringing the meals."
 
Reynolds' visit included a tour of the Meals on Wheels area, plus a surprise birthday celebration for a pair of Horizons employees.

Get ready to Run Local at The 27th Return of the Turkey Trot
There are many races out there that call themselves the Turkey Trot in communities across the country. In some cases, it's a national company that goes around putting on these events as part of a franchise. But not The Return of the Turkey Trot (TROTTT). This race is organized by First United Methodist Church Marion and Horizons, with all the money staying in the Cedar Rapids Metro area to improve the quality of life for our families, friends, and neighbors.

The 27th running will be Saturday, Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. and consists of a 5k walk/run and 8k run starting and ending at Marion High School, and followed by a pancake breakfast. Don't be fooled by imitation turkeys, sign up to run or volunteer at the local Turkey Trot by visiting www.trottt.com today!
