Celebrating Ministry Together!
You're Invited - Installation Services Across Our Synod
Installation Service - The Rev. Karen Stephenson
Sunday, January 26 @ 4:30 p.m.
You are invited to join Hope Lutheran in Palm Desert for the installation of their  pastor, the Rev. Karen Stephenson on Sunday, January 26 at 4:30 p.m. Hope Lutheran is located at 45900 Portola Avenue, Palm Desert. Clergy are invited to vest and process, with the color of the day being green.  A Beer & Hymns reception will be held in the Hope Center immediately following the service.

Pastor Karen hails from Chicago but before moving to the Coachella Valley resided in Atlanta for 26 years. Raised in a Pentecostal denomination and a consummate questioner, she became Lutheran by choice in her 30's. (Of course, the lemon squares and the whole justification thing had a whole lot to do with the change in denomination.) She is a former mission developer and the founder of a gathering that met in a bar and accidentally became a church called Atlanta Bar Church. She is a writer, singer, and social justice warrior, the mother of two amazing kids, she is owned by a brown dog named Rookie, loves the smell of campfire, and watching The Office (American version) on loop.

Installation Service - The Rev. Jay Egenes
Sunday, February 9 @ 4:00 p.m.
You are invited to join the congregation of Messiah Lutheran in Yorba Linda for the installation of their pastor, the Rev. Jay Egenes on Sunday, February 9 at 4:00 p.m. Messiah Lutheran is located at 4861 Liverpool Street, Yorba Linda. Clergy are invited to vest and process, with the color of the day being green.

110 Years of Ministry in Waikiki To Be Celebrated
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (POP) and the Waikiki Beach Chaplaincy (WBC) are
celebrating a combined 110 years of ministry in Waikiki, 60 years for POP and 50 for WBC.

The weekend-long celebration begins with a "Meet and Greet" at Prince of Peace in Eaton  Square on Friday, January 31 at 4:00 p.m. As part of the festivities, POP will "burn its mortgage!"

On Saturday, the two ministries will jointly host a banquet at the DoubleTree by Hilton Alana  at 5:30 pm. Bob Turnbull, the founder of the Waikiki Beach Chaplaincy, which grew out of Prince of Peace's College and Career Fellowship, will be the featured speaker. Bob is well known as Bart Thorson from the 1958 classic, "Dragstrip Riot," as well as Pastor Jack on "Hawaii 5-0."

On Sunday, guests can worship at POP at 9:00 a.m., then walk to the Hilton Hawaiian Village  Beach to worship with WBC at 10:30 a.m. Events culminate at 5:30 p.m. at a Sunset Beach Service. Each service will feature special music and dancing.

POP began its ministry in the Princess Ka'iulani Hotel, formally becoming a congregation of  the American Lutheran Church under the pastorate of Rev. Norm Hammer. From those early  years, POP grew into the "Penthouse Church" on Lewers Street during which the Waikiki  Beach Chaplaincy, Chinese Lutheran Church and the Bible Institute of Hawaii were birthed.  After the sale of the "Penthouse Church," POP returned to the Princess Ka'iulani, then  relocated to the Queen Kapi'olani Hotel for several years. Finally, in 2014, Prince of Peace  purchased space in Eaton Square for its worship and service center. This year POP paid off  its mortgage and will continue serving both residents and visitors in Waikiki!

The Waikiki Beach Chaplaincy is committed to taking church to where the people are, capitalizing on the beauty, charm and openness of this "Playground of the Pacific." It was founded by Governor John A. Burns' executive proclamation, appointing Bob Turnbull "Chaplain of Waikiki Beach."
