This exhibition featured the

April was a busy month filled with theatrical performances, community awareness programs, thriving student service events and much more.
I hope you had a chance to attend a few of them.
Campus is buzzing as everyone prepares for the end of the spring semester and Commencement. Soon though, summer will arrive and we can all take a breath and reflect on what we have accomplished this semester.

Receives 2018 Distinguished Woman in
Higher Education Leadership Administrative Award
President Jukoski was presented the award by the
Connecticut ACE Women's Network in Higher Education (CTAWN) at their spring conference, on April 20 at Fairfield University.
This annual award recognizes and honors women who have distinguished themselves by providing outstanding leadership to women in their institutions, in their profession, and in society at large. The CTAWN Awards Committee was deeply impressed by President Jukoski's record of mentorship and advocacy for women leaders in higher education.

New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Rejects CSCU Students First Consolidation Plan
On April 24, NEASC sent a letter to CSCU letting them know that the consolidation plan, "Students First," had been rejected. CSCU is now considering other solutions to the budget crisis.

Three Rivers hosts Panel Discussion on Opioid Crisis
On April 3, Three
Rivers hosted a panel discussion, "Confronting the Opioid Crisis in Our Community," which focused on how the opioid epidemic affects families in the Norwich/New London area. It was followed by a Healing Candlelight Vigil and included a Prescription Drug Take Back.

Scott Haney Speaks to a Packed Room
Scott Haney from Channel 3 visited the Adventures in Lifelong Learning group on April 5. He told some touching and funny stories that spanned his childhood, career and family.

NEASC Visits Three Rivers for Second Chance Pell Program Evaluation
An evaluator from NEASC visited campus on April 4 to confirm Three Rivers capacity to administer its off-campus locations. He met with administration, faculty, and staff, and students, including one student who was released from Radgowski and has elected to continue at Three Rivers.

The Status and Rights of Undocumented Immigrants
Joanne Lewis, an attorney for Connecticut Legal Services (CLS) gave a presentation discussing the legal immigration system, legal issues and threats facing undocumented immigrants, as well as the legal rights of undocumented immigrants on April 4.

Student Services Events a Success!
Admissions' Senior Night saw a large crowd, hosting over 100 graduating high school seniors and their families on Wednesday, April 10. Student Services also responded quickly to the closing of Ridley Lowell by coordinating two information sessions for displaced students. 35 students attended and 5 have applied and two have already registered as degree seekers for Fall 18, and 4 students have already registered for non-credit classes this summer.

National Library Week Celebrated with Rededication of "View of Ponemah Mills, Taftvill,CT --18 Panels"
Faculty, staff and students gathered on April 11 for an informal discussion with Jody Dole, the photographer/artist responsible for the 18 panel mural that hangs in the library. The discussion was followed by a viewing of the documentary about Ponemah Mills and a book signing with Bernice L. Rockque, who authored The Ponemah Years: Walking in the Footsteps of My Mother.

 Three Rivers holds First Lavender Graduation
On April 12, President Mark Ojakian and President Mary Ellen Jukoski honored LGBT+ and their allies. Six students participated in the Lavender Graduation. Three Rivers is the first community college in Connecticut to hold this ceremony, which pays tribute to students and their ally supporters for living their authentic lives.

Stupid F***ing Bird and Othello Wow Audiences
Three Rivers was treated to several theatrical productions this month. On April 20 the student preforming group filled the MPR to capacity when they preformed Stupid F***ing Bird. A few days later on April 23, Shakespeare & Company performed Othello, followed by a post-show forum and workshop. Othello was funded by the Three Rivers College Foundation, and the Student Performing Arts Group, and is part of the Booker T. DeVaughn lecture series.

Professor Frederick Douglas Knowles Honored at "Let Us Honor These Good Men"
Knowles was one of 18 men recognized for c
urbing domestic violence at the annual Power of Purple Campaign Against Domestic Violence special luncheon on April 27. The awareness campaign to end domestic violence was founded in 2013 by the Rose Conrad Memorial Fund and Safe Futures, in partnership with Hadassah American Affairs of Eastern Connecticut.

 Senator Chris Murphy Visits Campus
On April 27, the Senator came to campus to meet students applying to the Eastern CT Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative.
He also stopped by QVC, Collins & Jewell Co. and Electric Boat, which gave him the chance to see all the steps a student takes in the pipeline program from start to finish.

News from Three Rivers College Foundation
|
|
The TRC Foundation Board approved funding for an exciting new project coming to campus this fall. Faculty and staff will collaborate to create a unique "Makerspace" that encourages students and members of the community to express creativity and develop teamwork skills.
In addition, the board approved funding from the Grace Sawyer Jones Fund for the Arts to frame artwork that will join the permanent collection at Three Rivers under the stewardship of Sandra Jeknavorian.

he was the runner-up for the prestigious American Technical Education Association's (ATAE) National Technical Student of the Year Award. The national ATEA conference was just held in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
