City of Elmhurst Public Works Citizen Academy

The Public Works Citizen Academy is a 6-week program designed to give citizens a working knowledge of how the City of Elmhurst Public Works department provides vital functions to the community. The program, which is geared towards adults (you must be 18 or older to participate), will be held over six weeks with with sessions as follows:

The program includes an in-depth overview of the divisions, interactive hands-on activities, along with tours of City facilities and presentations by Public Works staff.

At the end of the program, participants will be recognized as Public Works Citizen Academy graduates at a ceremony at City Hall. The program is limited to 25 students per session and the application deadline in April 8th. This is a great opportunity to learn more about this interesting field. Apply here today!

Summer Plans that Require City Permits

Do you have plans for this summer that require city permits? Request them now! Permits can often take 5-6 weeks to be approved, so it is a good idea to get ahead of schedule. If you're thinking about adding a pool or installing a new fence, don't wait to get your plans approved so you can enjoy it as soon as possible!
Spring Clean-Up is Coming, Elmhurst!

Pick up days will be Saturdays in April depending on your regular garbage pick-up days. This year's dates are as follows: April 2nd for those with a Wednesday garbage pick-up, April 9th for those with a Thursday pick-up, and April 16th for those with a Friday pick-up.For a complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items, visit elmhurst.org/472/Spring-Clean-Up.
City Vehicle Stickers

City vehicle stickers must be purchased and displayed by May 1st on all vehicles registered or garaged within City limits. Stickers are sold at a discount from March 1 through April 30. Applications have been mailed to residents, and are available to download at elmhurst.org. Stickers can be purchased in person, online or by mail. Money collected through the sale of vehicle stickers goes into the City’s General Fund and is used for roadway maintenance and construction.

OVERNIGHT RAMP CLOSURES SCHEDULED ON I-290 NEAR THE TRI-STATE TOLLWAY (I-294) IN ELMHURST AND NORTHLAKE
 

The reconstruction of the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) bridge is underway over Lake Street/North Avenue. The work will require up to two weeks of nightly closures of the ramp connecting westbound I-290 to eastbound Lake Street/ North Avenue and lane closures on eastbound Lake Street. Repair to Argyle Avenue Tracks & Crossing 
 
The CN Railroad will be closing the Argyle Avenue crossing from May 23-May 27 in order to repair the tracks and crossing at this location. Complete road closure will be required for the duration of the project. Please see detailed reroute above. The complete track structure will be replaced, with new rubber crossing surface installed. The work is scheduled to commence at 9:00 am on Monday, May 23, 2022 and conclude by 6:00 pm on Friday, May 27, 2022.
Deadline Extended for Nominations!

The City of Elmhurst’s Commission on Youth is currently seeking nominees for its annual Exemplary Youth Service Awards, which will be presented on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at Sandburg Middle School. All volunteers, nominators, and their guests will be invited to the City of Elmhurst Exemplary Youth Service Awards Ceremony and all nominated volunteers will be recognized as part of the program. The City of Elmhurst Commission on Youth will coordinate the review and selection of Exemplary Youth Service Volunteers by a panel of the judges from the Elmhurst community. The nominations will be reviewed and scored by independent judges using a rubric that includes the criteria reflected in the application. Selection of exemplary volunteers is done via a blind review process. Nominations will be accepted until April 6, 2022. Nominations received after this date will not be considered.
