CCS Families In the Know
This week Craven County Schools held its first annual Career on Wheels (COW)Fair. There was lots of excitement at our host site, Craven Community College, with over 900 5th graders in attendance. Over 30 local businesses and agencies were on-hand to demonstrate a few of the skills utilized on the job. Students were engaged and attentively listened while having an opportunity to try some of the equipment, gadgets, and tools on site.
It was great to see so many connections being made to careers in our community. Thank you to all who made this event possible for our future career leaders!
NEW: Change to Arts Ed Graduation Requirement Coming 2022

SL2020-78 Section 2.5 states that in addition to existing graduation requirements, NC students will need to complete one credit in an arts discipline (visual arts, music theater arts, and dance) between sixth and twelfth grade. This begins with students starting sixth grade in the fall of 2022 and all classes thereafter (including students fulfilling the OCS Graduation Requirements).

Locally developed courses will not apply toward the Arts Ed Graduation Requirements. Only those courses which teach the entire Standard Course of Study in an Arts Ed subject would satisfy the requirement. There are no requirements about the length or duration of a course, but it must teach the entire SCOS in Arts Ed.
