A Note from the Board Chair...
With deep regret...

It is with great sadness that we inform you that Ms. Patti-Brown passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 16, 2020. She was an extremely valued member of our Crossroads School team. We will miss her dearly and we wish to extend our deep condolences to her family at this difficult time.

Current parents were informed in a direct email so that they had the opportunity to share this sad news with their children. Students gathered together Friday morning on campus to share their thoughts and feelings. Here are some student comments about Ms. Patti-Brown:

  • I remember my first time meeting her.
  • She always made me feel so comfortable.
  • I will remember how she made me feel when she taught me stuff. She was very calming, just like a member of my family.
  • Sometimes crying is the best thing to do.
  • I will miss her so much but I will keep her in my heart.

At Thanksgiving, all staff and students added their thoughts to our "Gratitude Tree." One of our students remembered and we read from Patti-Brown's own words, "I am thankful for all of the beautiful people in my life. Also, all of the wonderful animals in my life."

Coat Drive Extended 'til
January 31 !

There is still time to bring in old coats an sweaters to donate to those in need. Did you get a new coat over the holiday and now have one you don't need? Were you too busy at the end of the year to sort through your closet for unused items.

Now is the time! Let someone else benefit from the items you no longer need.

February's Collection Drive:
Birthday Bundles for Kids

Crossroads School will be collecting excess party goods to donate for the next drive. Napkins, plates, cups or decorations you did not use from a party. A local organization will sort them and distribute them to children from families who cannot afford these simple luxuries that add a special touch to a child's celebration.
Positivity Project- Curiosity

This week's positivity characteristic was CURIOSITY. The definition of curiosity is:    a strong desire to know or learn something. The students like exploration and discovery. They ask questions because they want to learn more about anything and everything. The students did find out that the average student asks about 300 questions a day!

As Seen On-Campus:
In elementary science, students have been reading about different volcanoes around the world and how people are affected by them. The students furthered their understanding of how a volcanic eruption can spread by mixing baking soda and vinegar.
Congratulations Ms. Julianne
Ms. Julianne had a special reason to celebrate over the school Winter Break. Mother, father and big sister are excited to introduce the newest addition to the family.
As Seen Off-Campus:

Ms. Debi had an opportunity to lead a project at Kolter Elementary School this week to explore the idea of KINDNESS. More than 100 4th grade students participated in the program which helped students understand that each person can make a difference. We are all able to be kind and help others in many ways throughout our day. Students compared the pros and cons of "Public" shows of kindness vs "Altruistic" forms. Students were each challenged to create a list of 20 Random Acts of Kindness that they could do throughout the coming week.
