Westheimer Streetcape Improvements Coming in 2020
|
This rendering shows some of the streetscape improvements planned for the Westheimer/Gessner intersection.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has awarded the contract for the Westheimer streetscapes project to Harper Brothers Construction, the same firm that is currently rebuilding Walnut Bend Lane.
The $12.7 million project will make back-of-curb improvements to the roadway, including replacing all traffic signal span wires with mast arms. Improved sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, enhanced landscaping and bus shelters will create a more pedestrian-friendly experience, while also improving access to retailers. More than 70,000 vehicles travel Westheimer Road everyday.
The project is funded by the Westchase District's 380 agreement with the City of Houston and a Federal Highway Administration grant. Construction will begin in January and is expected to take 18 months. TxDOT will oversee construction.

Grace Church Celebrates Five Decades in Westchase
Grace Presbyterian Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary at a special combined worship service on Sunday, December 8th at 10 am. All members and guests will also enjoy lunch in the church's newly-remodeled Massey-Tucker Hall following the service.
The congregation that became Grace Presbyterian Church met for the first time on the first Sunday in December 1969 at Walnut Bend Elementary School. For three years, weekly activities were held offsite until the completion and dedication of the gymnasium, fellowship hall and education building in March 1972. Later the Founders Chapel and sanctuary were built to accommodate the growing congregation.
In the next fifty years, Senior Pastor Rev. Dr. Trey Little, would like Grace Presbyterian Church to be known as "so much more than a nice building in the Westchase District. I'd like Grace to be remembered as a group of courageous people authentically partnering with Jesus to build His kingdom in Houston and beyond," said Little.
