REMINDER! Westminster Boulevard
Traffic Shift
|
|
Crews will shift traffic to the new Westminster bridge over I-405. The shift will occur in three phases and will require lane reductions.
Phase 1
Eastbound traffic was shifted onto the new bridge on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Phase 2
Crews began construction on the center median, Tuesday, Jan. 12. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., on weekdays and Saturdays for approximately two weeks.
Phase 3
Westminster will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Springdale Street and Willow Lane from 9:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26. Additionally, crews will close westbound Westminster to advance the traffic shift work from 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, to 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28. Westbound traffic will be shifted onto the new bridge at 6 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28.
Crews may mobilize equipment as early as 6 a.m., and some activity may occur at night.

COMING SOON! Westminster Boulevard Bridge Partial Demolition
|
|
Crews will demolish the second half of the Westminster bridge over I-405.
The bridge will be partially demolished over two nights, under full freeway closures.
Additional nighttime demolition will occur for several weeks under freeway lane closures. Some daytime demolition also is anticipated.
- Night One: 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 31
- Night Two: 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7
I-405 will be closed in each direction during nighttime demolition.

REMINDER! Bolsa Avenue Full Closure for
Concrete Work
|
|
Crews began concrete work for a retaining wall along eastbound (EB) Bolsa Avenue. This work requires full closures of Bolsa between Goldenwest Street and Chestnut Street.
- Nightly closures are set to continue 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., on weeknights, for approximately two weeks.
Additionally, crews will pour concrete for the Bolsa bridge over the I-405. This work will require a full 12-hour closure of Bolsa between Goldenwest Street and Chestnut Street.
- The closure is set for as early as 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, to 7 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26.
A detour will be in place for pedestrians and bicyclists to navigate around the closure.

REMINDER! Full Northbound (NB) and Southbound (SB) Harbor Boulevard Closure for Concrete Work
|
|
Crews will pour concrete for the widened I-405 bridge over Harbor. This work will require a full closure of Harbor between the I-405 ramps.
The closure is set to begin as early as TONIGHT, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20, and again Thursday, Jan. 21, if needed.
*The SB I-405 on-ramp from Harbor will be reopened for this work.

COMING SOON! Fairview Road Traffic Shift
|
|
Crews will soon shift traffic to the new half of the Fairview bridge over I-405 and begin working on the second half of that bridge. The traffic shift is set for early-to-mid February and will require bridge and ramp closures.
Demolition of the second half of the bridge will occur over two weekends, under full freeway closures and is set for late February.
The 405 Community Outreach Team will provide detailed schedule, closure, detour information in future alerts.

UPDATE! Talbert Avenue Bridge Work
|
Crews will continue construction of the Talbert Avenue bridge over the I-405. This work will require intermittent lane reductions at the intersection of Talbert and Ward Avenue and at Talbert and Brookhurst Street. Ongoing construction activities include demolition, grading, concrete pours and restoration.
Crews will close the northeast sidewalk and the curb lanes at the intersection of westbound Talbert and northbound Brookhurst.
- Closures are set to begin as early as 9 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 20, to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22.
Crews will close the northwest sidewalk and the curb lane at the intersection of southbound Brookhurst and westbound Talbert.
- Closures are set to begin as early as 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Crews will close the southeast curb lanes at the intersection of southbound Ward and eastbound/westbound Talbert.
- Closures are set to begin as early as 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29.
Intermittent sidewalk closures with pedestrian detour signage/flaggers will be present to navigate around the closures.

UPDATE! Euclid Street
Full Closure
|
Crews will close Euclid between Newhope Street and Mount Washington Circle for one night to place k-rail and restripe the road in preparation for an upcoming sidewalk closure.
The full Euclid closure is set to begin as early as 10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, to 5 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22.
In addition, crews will close the northbound Euclid sidewalk between Mount Washington and Newhope for approximately three to five months for demolition and reconstruction.
Pedestrians and cyclists can use southbound Euclid as a detour.

UPDATE! Full Southbound (SB) and Northbound (NB) Freeway Closures for Talbert Falsework Removal
|
Crews are scheduled to remove the falsework at the Talbert bridge over I-405. This work will require SB and NB full directional freeway closures between Brookhurst Street and Euclid Street.
SB nightly full freeway closures are set for 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.:
- Thursday, Jan. 21
- Friday, Jan. 22
- Monday, Jan. 25 through Thursday, Jan. 28*
NB nightly full freeway closures are set to continue 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.:
- Thursday, Jan. 28*
- Monday, Feb. 1 through Thursday, Feb. 4
*Only one direction is planned to be closed. If SB work has not been completed, it will be closed. Otherwise, northbound (NB) will be closed.

REMINDER! Nightly Southbound (SB) I-405 Freeway Closures for Bridge Work
|
Nightly SB I-405 closures are scheduled to continue for Brookhurst Street bridge construction. Activities include equipment mobilization, pile installation, shoring installation, falsework installation and grading, and column demolition for the old half of the Brookhurst bridge.
SB I-405 will be closed between Magnolia and Brookhurst.
The nightly closures are set to continue
11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on weeknights for approximately three weeks, as needed.

|
Crews closed the inside lanes on the SB and NB I-405 between Beach Boulevard and Newland Street for approximately one month to advance pile installation activities for the Edinger Avenue bridge.
Daily daytime freeway lane closures are set to continue as early as 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., for approximately one month, as needed.

Additionally, crews closed two outside lanes on the SB I-405 to SB SR-73 connector to perform permanent pavement construction.

Activities include demolition, excavation, grading, drainage and electrical system installation, concrete pours and asphalt paving.

REMINDER! Crews continue construction activities for the Heil pedestrian bridge over I-405. Activities include excavation, shoring, and pile driving to continue forming the foundation of the bridge.
Following this work, crews will begin forming the footings and columns, as well as construct the falsework to form the spans over the freeway.
This work requires an extended closure of Heil between Ross Lane and Landau Lane.
The closure began on Wednesday, Dec. 30, and is expected to continue for approximately seven months.
Residential access will be maintained at all times.

This activity includes augering large holes, and installing rebar cages and pouring concrete into the holes to form the piles.

REMINDER! Crews have begun relocating the fire hydrants along Almond Avenue to make room in the street for the sound wall activities. This work requires lane closures on Almond Avenue between Daisy Street and Pansy Circle. Access to all streets and driveways will always be maintained and the crew will include flaggers to assist with traffic control.
Below is an anticipated schedule of activities:

The week of Jan. 19, crews will excavate on Almond Avenue to tap into the main waterline for the new hydrants.
- Then for approximately two weeks, crews will continue excavation, perform waterline system testing, and sidewalk repair activities.

The week of Feb. 16, crews are anticipated to remove the valves for the old fire hydrants. This work will require shutting off water for up to six hours between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The outreach team will provide you and your neighbors with an update prior to this water shutoff.
What's Next?
Demolition and reconstruction of the sound walls along Almond Avenue are anticipated to commence as early as February 2021. Crews will install a temporary sound barrier prior to demolition.
