Major Acquisitions

Leor Margulies, senior partner and head of Real Estate Group, associate Noah Ciglen, and Kimberly Lexovsky, senior acquisition law clerk, represented the Lindvest Group in the lengthy negotiation and purchase of an ongoing 4-phase condominium project comprising 648 units. The project had originally been developed by the Briarwood Group with the first building of 168 units having been pre-sold in August 2019. The transaction closed in February 2021. Robins Appleby LLP will be assisting the Lindvest Group in the marketing and sale of this project.


Northwest Healthcare

Development, Construction and Operation of The Jerry Coughlan Health and Wellness Centre serving Durham Region

Darrell Gold, a partner in our Real Estate Group, together with associate Rachel Puma and associate Noah Ciglen, represented NWH (LAKERIDGE) LP and NorthWest Healthcare Real Estate Investment Trust on the 75 year ground lease of 2580 Brock Road, Pickering, ON from Lakeridge Health. Andrew Kidd, Senior Vice President of development at the REIT was the driving force behind the transaction for NorthWest.

Woodgreen Housing Initiative

Our Real Estate Group led by senior partner John Fox acted for Sun Life and Daniels Corporation on an innovative affordable housing project, which will provide 34 affordable rental housing units to single mothers in downtown Toronto. The developers are developing a 346- unit residential rental building at 25 Nicholas Avenue, located in the Regent Park neighborhood of Toronto, in which approximately 10% of the units will be affordable rental units.

Abandoned Laneway

Our Real Estate Group led by senior partner Senior partner in our Real Estate Group Partner John Fox, together with the assistance of senior associate Ladislav Kovac, completed the sale of a parking lot in Hamilton for $20M. The initial acquisition of the site had uncovered that a portion of the land was an abandoned laneway erroneously missing from the land registry office’s electronic records and last transferred in 1895. Due diligence undertaken by the firm satisfied the Purchaser and their counsel of the vendor’s ownership over the abandoned laneway and permitted the transaction to close notwithstanding the title issues. The lands are intended to be developed into high rise condominiums.


Sale of Steel Fabrication Business

Michael Gasch, senior partner in our Tax & Estate Planning Group, and Charlie Kim, partner in our Business Law Group, acted for the seller on the negotiation and sale of a steel fabrication business to a publicly traded company. The transaction was completed in March 2021 at a purchase price of approximately $30 million. Our team at Robins Appleby LLP also included Errol Tenenbaum, partner in our Tax & Estate Planning Group, Darrell Gold, partner in our Real Estate Group, Rachel Puma, associate in our Real Estate Group, Christina Pugliese, corporate law clerk and Amelia Briggs-Morris, articling student. Shareholder Dispute
