A New Rector is Announced
Reverend Gary van der Meer

Bishop Parker wrote to St John's ..

It is my pleasure to announce that I have appointed the Reverend Gary van der Meer, BA, MBA, MDiv to be the incumbent of the parish of St. John's Elgin Street, effective February 1, 2021.

Gary is a skilled and dynamic priest, who is passionate about ministry and is committed to building connections between the parish church and its local community, including inter-religious relationships. He is a strong communicator and a collaborative team-builder who seeks out people's gifts so they can join in the challenge of ministering in Christ's name. I know you will warmly welcome Gary to Ottawa and into the life and ministry of your parish community.

The Letter from the Bishop was read last Sunday at the 9.30 am Sunday Eucharist at St John's. You can read the entire letter here.

Gary will come to us from St Anne's in Toronto

Before becoming a priest, Michael was an epidemiologist. He now finds himself advising the Ontario House of Bishops and has been very involved with designing the Diocese of Ottawa Pandemic Plan.

INSTALLATION OF THE NEW DEAN OF OTTAWA

Pre-Registration is Required!

Bishop Shane has announced that The Very Reverend Beth Bretzlaff will be installed as Dean of Ottawa and Rector of Christ Church Cathedral at a service of Evening Prayer at the Cathedral.
The Venerable Pat Johnston will be the preacher.

As Amber protocols will be in effect, it is necessary to pre-register for this service. Please call the cathedral office at 613.236.9149 or send your email request to info@ottawacathedral.ca to pre-register.  

For those who are unable to attend and wish to share in this happy occasion, the service will be livestreamed on the cathedral YouTube channel.

Calendars should be available on Sunday November 29th at church. Delivery to those not at church can be arranged with Gay. Please pay with cash (exact amount required) if at all possible, otherwise cheques can be made payable to St John's.

CALLED TO HELP YOUR COMMUNITY?

Parish Council is seeking a representative to serve on the Centretown Churches Social Action Committee (CCSAC) as a result of a recent vacancy. The CCSAC is responsible for working on social justice issues of interest to Ottawa's downtown community and organizes several ecumenical events including the Walkathon in support of the Centretown Emergency Food Centre. CCSAC has one representative for each of 23 churches located in the downtown area. The Committee meets once a month on Monday evening.  If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Stephen Giles at 613 614 9558.
