Changing Minds Mental Health Resource Fair is dedicated to awareness, education, understanding and advocacy of mental and brain health issues in Iowa.
This year's program included Dr. Matthew Vasquez from the University of Northern Iowa, who discussed trauma and suicide. The keynote speaker was Kevin Hines who, at the age of 19, attempted suicide by jumping off the Golden Gate bridge. Both speakers shared their information and incredible stories to create awareness in our community about suicide and trauma. Stop The Stigma Awards were also presented to honor individuals and businesses working to end mental health stigma.

Volunteer Reception Center Training
|
|
On
Monday, June 3rd, 2019 from 10a to 1p,
community members interested in volunteering in the wake of a disaster, came out to the Jule Operations and Training Center in order to better prepare themselves for what would be expected of them in the wake of a disaster. Volunteer Reception Centers (VRC) are critical in managing spontaneous volunteers in any emergency/disaster response. The VRC assists in turning spontaneous volunteers into a united force and are crucial in avoiding a disaster within a disaster. To learn more about Volunteer Reception Centers, visit Get Connected or contact United Way.
