Stay Active Even in The Cold
You can stay active, even after the temperature drops. There are many activities you can participate in including:

  • Brisk walking or hiking
  • Jogging or running
  • Raking leaves
  • Shoveling snow
  • Ice skating
  • Sledding
  • Cross-country skiing
  • Snowshoeing

Dress To Stay Warm
To stay warm when you head out into the cold weather, dress in layers. For your first layer, you want something that pulls moisture away from your skin, like the moisture wicking fabrics used in high-performance sportswear. Next, add a layer of fleece; finally, top with a thin waterproof layer. Resist layering with cotton because once cotton becomes wet with sweat or snow, the moisture is trapped and will actually make you feel colder.

Too Cold For Outside?
If the winter weather prevents you from getting outside, do not get discouraged. There are many ways to be active if you are stuck inside. Hand weights or resistance bands are a great addition, but not necessary. You can also wear a heavy backpack to add intensity to your workout. Here are a few suggestions:
  • Home workout circuit
  • Dancing
  • Active housework like vacuuming and sweeping
  • Yoga or other exercise classes on an app or YouTube
  • Stair climbing
How The Winners Are Chosen
Participants that follow the guidelines and report their points will be eligible to award a local food pantry a donation on their behalf from the GHT. There are three ways to win. Please note, you must be registered to win.

  • Weekly - each week 20 participants with the highest weekly point total will be chosen to award a local food pantry of their choice $20. If there is a tie, those participants will be entered in a random drawing. Participants can win multiple weeks.
  • Challenge conclusion - 20 participants with the highest scores (84 points maximum) will be selected to award $50 to their favorite local food pantry. A random drawing will break any ties.
  • Additionally, another 20 local food pantries will receive $20 from participants that report points all four weeks, regardless of their point totals. Those that qualify will be entered in a random drawing.

Once all of the winners have been chosen, the GHT will send a check to each chosen food pantry for the total amount that each one was awarded. Yes you can win multiple times throughout the challenge as long you report your points!
