VLCT UPDATES

Get the gist of the various issues that Vermonters are voting on this year. This report notes the trends and selected highlights of 211 municipal town meeting warnings.

To ensure a truly successful town meeting, town officers must continue their important work even after the gavel has come down and the polls have closed. This info sheet can help you navigate the numerous post-town meeting legal requirements found in Vermont statutes, even if your annual meeting will take place later in in the year.

VLCT Board President Jessie Baker’s op-ed discusses the Vermont Senate Judiciary Committee’s consideration of a bill that would create an expansive private cause of action against law enforcement personnel and remove qualified immunity as a defense. Please read this op-ed as well as PACIF's position paper on the topic.

If you have an urgent legal matter about another topic and haven’t received a response from MAC, please contact your municipal attorney. To provide improved service to our members, VLCT has hired a new MAC attorney who is now on staff.

VLCT invites applications to fill a vacancy on the VLCT Board of Directors. Please consider applying or nominating a municipal leader. Applications are due 3/4.
