Double Home Dedication
Two Couples build their houses and a sense of community through Habitat for Humanity’s Homeownership program

Gainesville, FL - Join us for the Alachua Habitat for Humanity double home dedication ceremony for new homeowners Jennelyn & Alex and Teameika & John. Help us celebrate as these two households receive the keys to their new homes in the Franklin Park neighborhood in southeast Gainesville. The home dedication will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at  1509 & 1513 NE 4 th  Ave.  in Gainesville.

Every Saturday since last November, the homeowners-to-be worked side-by-side with Alachua Habitat volunteers to build their homes. During that time, not only did they build their homes, but they also built strong friendships. The time and commitment they have put in to bettering their families’ lives has created a bond between all of them that will never be forgotten. As a result, they are extremely excited to finally get to move in to their new homes and become neighbors. When they weren’t working on their houses they were persevering through their everyday lives. Teamika works as a deputy with Alachua County’s Sherriff’s office, John is a sports blogger and player development coach for The Rock School’s basketball teams, Jennelyn is a full time mother, and Alex works on flooring in the furnishing industry.

The generous support of house sponsors, Scherer Construction and City of Gainesville, made these affordable homeownership projects achievable. Both families appreciate and thank the sponsors for making their dream of living in a safe home possible.

The two houses are located in the Greater Duval Community, the focus of Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program. This effort, driven by residents in underserved communities, supports the creation of vibrant, safe, and inviting places to live for future and current residents. These two households were able to accomplish a greater life for their own families and participated in improving their new neighborhood.

Ransomware Attacks are on the Rise

Ransomware attacks on businesses and government networks are on the rise. For Q1 2019, ransomware attacks increased by more than 500 percent from the same time frame in 2018 with 336,634 detections. The attackers are targeting local governments with The City of Lake City - just a short drive north of Gainesville - recently falling victim to ransomware on June 10th. It was announced on June 20th that The City of Riviera Beach, FL suffered a ransomware attack that set them back $600,000 in ransom demands and $1,000,000 for new computers and hardware as a result of the hack.

Cities aren't alone. It seems like every day there is a headline claiming another company has fallen victim to ransomware. FedEx was hit to the tune of $300M, Maersk Lines lost $400M. An asphalt and paving business in PA lost $263,144. A church in TX lost $610,440. A cold pack shipping company in PA lost $19,000.

Be prepared and don't become the next name in the list.

Ransomware is preventable, but extremely difficult to recover from if your data isn't protected properly. A few tips to help steer you in the right direction:
  • Ensure your antivirus is up to date
  • Have a complete backup plan in place with cloud replication. (Ransomware has been known to encrypt your local backups too)
  • Consider signing up for security awareness training since ransomware attacks generally boil down to a user clicking a malicious link
  • Hire an IT professional who focuses on security. The worst thing you can do is "DIY Security"

The Courage to Be Average !
Jennifer Webb, magiccomm.com

Don’t you just hate being average at something? Most of us want to look really good at whatever we do, whether we’re leading a meeting, grilling a burger or playing an instrument. We are a nation that needs to excel and since we are often defined by what we do, doing it in an average or mediocre way must define us as subpar, or not quite good enough.

We may want to be excellent—and to strive for perfection—but often we’re going to have to start off making mistakes, looking foolish and even being mediocre in order to master the task. And for many of us there will be numerous things we’ll never excel in, but the endeavor will still be worth doing just for the fun of it, or the learning experience, or for any number of other reasons.

A perfect example of “fear of not being perfect” is a program I taught years ago. I was hired to create and teach a workbook on presentational skills for Dunn & Bradstreet. Their experts marketed the program but there was a problem, people weren’t signing up. Then marketing had a brilliant idea and put in one extra line: “You do not have to get up and speak” and the classes filled up. People wanted to learn public speaking, as long as they didn’t have to get up and speak, and look foolish as they learned.
When we decide our unique self-worth is not tied up in how well we do everything, then we have the ability and freedom to get out there and get comfortable being uncomfortable. This is how we’re going to learn, and in many instances, become experts in something new.

Think about something you’d like to learn that could enhance your career or simply add value and joy to your life. Then strategize how you can start the learning process. It might be creating 20 minutes to study or rehearse three days a week, signing up for a course or finding a mentor. There are numerous ways to become proficient at something, as long as we’ve the courage to be just average first.

Remember thoughts become actions—I’m OK with how I appear to others, I’m learning. Actions become habits—I’m starting to feel more comfortable with this and enjoy the learning process. Habits become who we are—unique and daring and modeling courage for all those other folks who believe it’s either perfection or nothing, who miss out on the adventure and the fun!

Colliers International in Gainesville Facilitates 7,200-Square-Foot Lease for CPAmerica, Inc. in Tower Hill Office Park
Gainesville-headquartered business
to take occupancy of new space by August 1, 2019

June 20, 2019 — Gainesville, Fla. — The Drotos Ryals Team of Colliers International in Gainesville has facilitated a 7,200-square-foot office lease for CPAmerica, Inc. in the Tower Hill Office Park, located at 7555 West University Avenue in Gainesville’s Tower Road/Newberry Road submarket.

Dan Drotos, Rory Causseaux and Mike Ryals represented both the tenant and the landlord, Bolton Post Enterprises, LLC, in the transaction. CPAmerica, Inc., an accounting association of independent, certified public accounting firms, will relocate its 22 employees in Gainesville from its current headquarters in the Wells Fargo Building in Downtown Gainesville to the Tower Hill Office Park by August 1, 2019, pending completion of the office buildout.

The central location, flexible floor plan and space to support future growth were key factors in the decision to relocate. According to Drotos, the deal represents one of the largest moves in Gainesville’s office sector in recent months.

“It was a pleasure to use our teams' expertise to bring the landlord and tenant together for this transaction,” said Drotos. “After more than a year of searching Gainesville’s limited inventory of large office space, we were pleased to facilitate the match for both parties. We believe it will be a mutually beneficial partnership in the years to come.”

In 2018, CPAmerica, Inc. celebrated its 40th anniversary. For Alan Deichler, president of CPAmerica, Inc., the association’s new office aligns with his strategic plans for the association.

“It was important for us to find a space where we could continue our growth in our fifth decade of operation,” said Deichler. “The Drotos Ryals Team at Colliers International understood our vision and delivered a space that exceeded our expectations. We look forward to serving our member firms across the U.S. from our Tower Hill Office Park headquarters later this year.”

The Drotos Ryals Team can be reached at 352-420-9889 and on social media at @drotosryalsteam.
