IRF's History of Roads (Part 2)
The arrival of the wheel - What have the Romans ever done for us?

Friday | June 18, 2021
11:00 AM EDT

"All roads lead to Rome" as the old saying goes.  The second stop in our History of Roads series will explore roads in the age of the Roman Empire.  All around our modern world we find evidence of Roman engineering and construction which have passed the test of time, with many methods and techniques still in practice today.  Perhaps just as lasting, the Romans also showed us how critical road infrastructure is for governance, economics, culture, and security.

A study of the Roman Empire Era provides us with good insights on how societies grow and prosper with good roads; yet, we can also take note that good roads deteriorate when economics stagnate and societies retract. Join us as we travel back 2,000 years in time to explore the Roman roads of conquest and community
