from the head of school
Dear AL Families,
Starting Monday, October 26, the Fall NWEA test will be administered to our students from 2nd to 9th grade. The NWEA MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) is an independent assessment used by many school districts around the country to measure student growth in math, reading, language usage and science.
Because of the pandemic, our students took neither the annual Missouri Assessment Program nor the NWEA spring test last school year. This Fall online session will be proctored by our AL teachers and is an opportunity to provide them with accurate and actionable data that will help to better meet the instructional needs of each and every student. Besides, the administration of the test is part of the AL charter agreement and is used by the University of Central Missouri - our charter sponsor, in their annual academic review.
To help your child do her/his best, please: -
Give your child a quiet place to work at a desk or table. Provide them with headphones if available.
-
Make sure your child is on time for their testing sessions.
-
Make sure your child has a pencil and scratch paper for the math assessment.
Please do not assist your child with the assessments. We will be using the data from the assessments to plan instruction for each child based on their needs. These assessments do not count towards a grade.
Thank you for your continued support.

from the armour principal
Dear Armour Families,
Monday-Wednesday (October 26-28) will be NWEA testing from 9:00 am to 12 pm. Schedules have been sent to parents by homeroom teachers with instructions on how to prepare and support their child through this virtual testing experience. Click here for the schedule overview. There will be Musketeer time as usual and since it's also Spirit Week, students are free to participate in a variety of fun activities planned by the Student Council. The week culminates with an online Halloween costume contest sponsored by the PTO and judged by a panel of teachers and STUCO members on Friday, October 30 at 7:30 pm.

Noa, Avital, and Tamara Falicov, Fred Thompson of ShelterKC, and Kelly Berry of the Kansas City Public Library.
|
Avital and Noa Falicov (4th and 3rd graders at Cherry campus) organized a new and used book donation event in partnership with the KC public library to donate books to Shelter KC, a homeless shelter downtown. They delivered books to the shelter and Avital's girl scout troop (AL Troop 4350) made homemade bookmarks for the residents.
The girls learned that a big need for the shelter is for computer thumb drives so people can carry their personal documents with them. If you are interested in donating USB flash drives to ShelterKC, please contact Tamara Falicov tfalicov@ku.edu and we will pick them up.
India Jane Walker, class of 2016, is participating in a very special event tonight as part of the Ameri'Kana music festival with the band Making Movies. India has been paired with a national artist and they have created a song for the event on 10/23. Click here to read the full press release.
