In celebration of 40 years of association and advocacy, the Joint National Committee for Languages (JNCL) has extended discounted registration for its annual world language policy summit and networking event Virtual Language Advocacy Days 2021 to be held February 3-5, 2021.

During the three day advocacy event, language educators and professionals will unite for the unique opportunity to learn about the federal programs that impact the Language Enterprise, understand the role of advocacy in advancing collective policy priorities, and gain skills to become successful advocates for world languages.


JNCL-NCLIS Action Alert

On September 22, 2020, JNCL-NCLIS attended a briefing hosted by the U.S. Department of Labor (Department) regarding a proposed rule addressing how to determine whether a worker is an employee under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) or an independent contractor.

JNCL-NCLIS Action Alert

The Department of Homeland Security issued a Proposed Rulemaking on September 25, 2020 to establish a fixed term for student visas of no more than four years. This rule also contains changes that would impact J-1 world language teachers and English learners. Read a summary here.

There are many pathways to engage in virtual exchange, including researching and joining existing programs, piloting programs at a small scale with international partners, or tapping into international networks to establish new virtual exchange partners. Panelists will share how they explored ways to adopt virtual exchange and will highlight best practices and learnings for those new to the virtual exchange field.
