Core value #3: Community
We remember who and what we miss...
Zoom can't
hug
This winter photo reminds us that God created humans for more than digital interaction.
Thanks to all the students, teachers, and parents who have soldiered through the temporary distancing conditions, for all the right reasons.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is
God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thess. 5:18
The number one comment heard from all ages in the academy's community -- apart from comments about scanning that cannot be repeated -- is, "We want to be back together with our people!" Assembling together, being together, and encouraging, sharpening, and doing life together is core to who we are and what Lake Pointe serves to offer.
In that vein, school leaders are planning the last week to include some sense of community, and looking for summer opportunities, too, according to whatever loosening of restrictions occurs.

Seniors move from distance learning screen to big screen.
Class of 2020
to be honored in graduation at the Drive-In
To accommodate a large crowd, despite social distance, Lake Pointe has moved its commencement ceremony to Hounds Drive-In theater in Kings Mountain, NC.
The decision allows for the largest possible range of the LPA community and its guests to attend. Now, even under social distancing, each senior's cherished community can now all come. Extended family, student peers, teachers, coaches, and even siblings - all can now be involved - even those with serious virus concerns and health issues, like grandparents.
The ceremony will be earlier in the week, according to the drive-in's availability for evening use.
Wednesday, May 20, 2020
Ceremony starts at 8:30 p.m.
Gates open for spectators at 7:00 and close at 8:00 p.m.

7th grade students attended Mrs. Salmon's English class during 4th period.

7th grade soon
Rising to the next challenge
In August, 6th graders were the toast of the elementary program.
In three weeks, natural progression lifts them to their next life challenge: junior high studies in the secondary program!
In God's providence, "Rising 7th grade Day" took place on the very last on-campus day of classes, March 13. Sixth graders, their parents, and new junior high families all visited for a taste of Lake Pointe's secondary program. They were greeted by academy program leaders, enjoyed a Connection assembly, and attended a sample class, English 7, with the existing students. Parents had the opportunity to experience presentations about the secondary program, and pizza and games capped off a special day -- and the on-campus semester, at the same time.
It will be a pleasure to welcome the 7th graders to secondary campus in the fall. Congratulations on all the efforts so far this year.

Around the campus
Even the primary students are Zooming with online live video sessions.
And teachers are switching from "room to Zoom," to get things done.
|
Yikes! Yearbooks are coming!
The Cornavirus closed the yearbook printing plant, apparently, but we are told to expect a shipment soon. Advisor Mrs. Bolin will update us all when more details are available.
Seniors seemed to prophesy Zoom!
When yearbooks arrive, everyone will see that the Class of 2020 executed a special yearbook presentation that mimicked the beginning of the old Brady Bunch TV show.
Senior photos were arranged in a square, with seniors looking out of the photos at each other. Now, they are doing similar in their "Zoom" distance learning sessions each week.

Athletic Director Mr. Spratley talks to students and parents about sports opportunities.

Interested in fall sports? Let's Go!
The Athletic Department is moving forward with planning for next year's sports, although there remains uncertainty about what that will look like in the fall.
Online interest meetings start this week
Fall sports teams plan online Zoom interest meetings for students and parents to attend. There, coaches will explain goals, expectations, and some season details. Look for emails from athletic director, Mr. Spratley, or e-mail him with questions at BSpratley.LPA@gmail.com.
- This Thursday, May 7, from 7:00-7:30 p.m.
A Zoom online "Interest Meeting" will be held for all of those considering participating in varsity boys soccer. This meeting is for both players and parents.
Students must be in grades 7-12 to participate in varsity soccer.
Summer sports activities
Optional summer workouts are planned for the different team sports, which await clearer coronavirus guidelines.
The girls' varsity soccer team played two matches, with the last one being celebrated the very last day students were on campus before the academy went to distance learning.
Two matches... two victories... too soon to end.
Romans 8:28 reminds us that the Lord God has good reasons for all that He allows in our lives, and what he allows is ultimately for His glory and for our good.
Still, it hurts. There was so much promise in the season! Congratulations ladies. We're calling it "an undefeated season, with an asterisk!" Special appreciation to the seniors.
