April 2022
Hello RSPA Northshore Tigers Family!

Wow, we are already in Awesome April. While March was filled with many exciting events, April brings a different set of excitement…..its test time!

Our teachers and scholars have been working extremely hard to complete the curriculum by the end of the school year. Our Pre-K-2nd graders are growing in their reading levels and numeracy skills, while our 3rd-6th graders are preparing for this year's STAAR Assessment. We offer after-school tutorials Monday-Thursday for all students and Sensational Saturday tutorials for our HB4545 students. Please check with your scholar's teacher for more information.

This month our 3rd-6th grade scholars will take the STAAR Mock (practice) test, which gives us a good indicator of where our scholars are and what we need to work on to prepare for the actual STAAR test in May. This year's STAAR Bootcamp theme is "It's Game Time." Our scholars will get a chance to participate in several different activities that will help prepare them for the STAAR test. Look for more information about testing in your email and your scholar's Take Home folder throughout this month.

Fine Arts Spring Recitals are later in the month, and I can't wait to see what our scholars have been working on! Take a look at the performance schedule listed below.

Our attendance continues to be pretty good, but we fell below 97% a few times last month. Let's work together to make this month an exceptional month for attendance and see which class or classes will win the pizza party!

As always, my door is open. Please stop by for a chat. POW WOW with the Principal is the 2nd Tuesday of this month at 9:30 am.

Every child, Every Day, 100% of the time!

COVID-19 UPDATE

Due to the suspension of COVID-19 testing via our third-party vendor, a lack of available tests, and a decreased number of positive cases, RSPA will conclude onsite testing for its staff and scholars effective immediately (please see additional testing sites below).

Campus-wide staff & parent COVID-19 email notices will also cease. However, RSPA will continue to individually notify the parents of scholars who have been in close contact with a positive case while on campus.

RSPA will continue to follow state guidelines and notify the local health department and the Department of State Health Services. In this regard, please continue to report all positive tests to the district by emailing covidresponse@rhodesschool.org and taking the steps outlined on our website here.

Additional Parent Announcements & Reminders

Gifted and Talented Education (GATE):
GATE testing is underway at both RSPA campuses! Scholars recommended for testing will take both the NNAT3 and the Stanford tests to see if they qualify to receive GT services. For more information on these test assessments, please visit the link below!
Testing Tibits:
Parents, we have Mock STAAR Testing on April 5th-8th. We want to ensure all of our scholars are well prepared. We need all students in attendance each day on time and well-rested to ensure scholars can do their very best. Please note, the campus will be closed to all visitors during this time.

Here are some testing tips:

  1. Get enough sleep the night before the test.
  2. Prepare for the test by studying over your notes from class.
  3. Take your time and read your test carefully.
  4. Always give a 100% on the test.

Upcoming STAAR Testing Dates:
Tutorials:
We have after-school tutorials Monday - Thursday from 3:45- 4:45 for 3rd - 6th grade. This is a great way for your scholar to receive help in Math and Reading. If you want your scholar to attend, please email Mrs. Akers: at sakers@rhodesschool.org.

Sensational Saturday Tutoring Camps:
These camps help close the learning gaps that have developed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of our students meet the HB4545 requirements due to low or no test scores, and our Saturday tutorials are designed to help meet that requirement. Here are the remaining camp dates:

9:00-11:00AM
Saturday, April 9th
Saturday, April 23rd
Saturday, May 7th
Nurse’s Notes:
Parents, immunizations must be up-to-date (or a current affidavit must be on file to exempt a student from receiving immunizations) for a student to remain enrolled in school.
Also, if your child has to borrow a school uniform, please return them back to the school.

Parent Pick-Up & Drop-Off Times:
Morning drop-off time is at 7:15a and early pick-up ends at 2:50p daily. If you need early drop-off or late pick-up, Crayon Club (6:00a-6:00p) is available for a fee. Thank you for your strict adherence to this policy.

Attendance:
Please make sure that your child attends school daily. It is imperative to their academic success and growth in school. Just as a reminder: students who miss 10 or more school days, may receive an attendance behavior contract and could be subject to compulsory attendance laws. Also, 3 tardies are equivalent to one absence.

Intent to Return:
Parents, please check your email or log in to your SchoolMint account for your intent to return option. If you are asked for an access code, please ensure you are attempting to log in to your original account. If you don't remember your credentials, hit "forgot password" & follow the necessary steps. You can also request your username by emailing admissions@rhodesschool.org.

Did you know? Texas charter schools serve more students from the lowest-income neighborhoods than traditional public schools (37% vs. 24%). School communities like ours are making the public education system fairer by helping children overcome obstacles and meet their immense potential. As true partners with our families, we’re making our communities stronger. Take a look at this new research — it’s a quick but impactful read.
