New Needlepoint Designs
Supporting Military Families
We are proud to feature needlepoint from a military-spouse owned company, and are excited for the opportunity to give back to the military community. We are delighted to share that $25 from each sale of this line will benefit TAPS, the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors. TAPS works to provide 24/7 support 365 days of the year to Gold Star Families and anyone else grieving the loss of a military love one. These services are provided at no cost to surviving families
and loved ones.
TAPS provides a variety of programs to survivors both nationally and worldwide, including the National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp. The military dress uniform pieces are available for each branch of the military. The dog park ornament also has a wide variety of dogs, just ask and we will check with them. They add dogs to the line as requested.
And the whole line is terrific! Everything is currently in stock, with the exception of the blue bird, which will arrive in about 3 weeks.
You are encouraged to pre-order bird; it is sure to sell out. It includes the stitch guide. The mailbox ornaments are personalized at no extra cost. This group not only supports an excellent cause but are talented, professional and a pleasure to work with.

NORO Log Cabin Afghan
Pam admits she will look for any excuse (reason) to knit with Noro yarns. The color variations in their skeins are incredibly compelling. Noro has a wide variety of yarns with different fiber blends to suit your climate.
This is a great pattern for beginners and experienced knitters alike. Beginners will learn to pick up stitches, slip stitches, and work a three-needle bind off (or optional Kitchener stitch).
This is a portable project while you are knitting the individual squares (it’s small enough that it won’t rest in your lap during summer knitting).
You can customize the size of the blanket based on the number of squares you knit. Knit with 12 squares, the blanket will be approximately 57” x 40”.
During this class you will learn the basic techniques of log cabin knitting.
Note: The $35 class fee is per session.
Advanced Beginner Skill Level: must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, work basic stitch patterns with combinations of knits and purls, and follow written instructions.

The Big Love Cardigan
The Big Love Cardigan, designed by Ankestrick, is a fabulous cozy cardigan that will become a staple in your fall/winter wardrobe!
Let’s start by talking design elements. This oversized, boxy cardigan has a textured fabric, shawl collar, and drop sleeves.
Big Love is knit seamlessly from the top-down in aran weight yarn. When you’re done knitting it is ready to wear! (Well, you do have to block and weave in ends, but still – no seams!)
The sequence of the knitting is as follows:
- Start with a provisional cast on and working the collar separately.
- Then you pick up and cast on sts for the back and shape the back neck with German short rows.
- Continue to work the back for the length of the armhole.
- Pick up the stitches for the front and collar and work both fronts symmetrically for the length of the armhole.
- Join back and fronts to work the body in stitch pattern down to the bottom ribbing.
- Pick up the sleeve sts to work the sleeves in rounds in stitch pattern.
- The tubular bind off is used for the ribbing at the bottom of the sweater and the sleeves.
Intermediate Skill Level: must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, and work a variety of stitch patterns with combinations of knits and purls, and follow a pattern independently. This is a not suitable first sweater project.

Building in Color
Do you want to expand your skills
from just knit and purl?
This incredibly striking sampler afghan is the perfect way to learn different stitches and techniques that make up the mystical world of colorwork!
Over the course of the class, you will gain confidence managing several colors at a time while knitting ten different panels: intarsia, short rows, slipped stitches, knit below, elongated stitches, mosaic, tuck stitch, and the butterfly stitch.
After the panels are knit, you will learn how to finish the afghan by blocking and seaming the panels. The final step is knitting the border.
Building in Color is a skill building class that has students knitting a different strip every month that can be seamed together to create a lovely sampler afghan.
The finished size of the afghan is approximately 52” wide by 42” tall. It is possible to modify the height by knitting shorter panels and modify the width by knitting fewer panels. For example, to make a baby blanket you could knit five panels.
Advanced Beginner Skill Level: must be able to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, work basic stitch patterns with combinations of knits and purls, simple increases/decreases, and follow written instructions.
Class meets monthly on the second Sunday of the month from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (Eastern) with ongoing enrollment. Students starting the class may be in the company of other knitters further along.
Note: The $35 class fee is per session. However, not all sessions are required. Attendance is optional based on your needs or technique assistance.

Needlepoint Finishing Guidelines
As finishers place more restrictions on accepting finishing, we are forced to add more guidelines for finishing.
We are making every effort to provide wonderful finishing in a timely manner at a reasonable price. Our finishing process is not what it was in 2019, but what is in this world? Please be patient, clear on what you want and be kind to our staff.
Blocking
If you stitch in continental your canvas must be blocked. Some canvases we received for finishing are so out of shape, they require blocking twice.
Basketweave if done in hand may need blocking. If you do not bring your work in blocked, depending on the need, we will either take it to Mayflower Cleaners in Princeton, and charge you the cost plus a charge for our staff to take it and pick it up, OR we send it out to a finisher who blocks. The finisher who will block is not guaranteeing any return date. Either way it will cost more in time and money.
Fabrics and Trims
Please bring in fabric and accessories you want used for your work. Ornaments require an uncut skein of thread for twisted cord. A two-color cord requires a skein of each color. We have a limited choice of fabric for the back of ornaments, feel free to supply your own or choose from what we have.
Stockings and cuffs need fabric for back and cording. (Cuffs, obviously need more.) If you are choosing a velvet, do not choose upholstery fabric with heavy backing. All stockings need coordinating light-weight fabric for lining.
Pillows require a 1/2 yard extra fabric for cording. All our finishers provide filler.
|
|
We have worked actively to help solve the finishing crisis for our customers. We have hired three finishers to finish needlepoint projects exclusively for our customers.
This is in addition to our pillow seamstress.
What can you do to help?
Please bring in your projects as soon as possible.
Provide fabric, ribbons, and accessories.
Have your piece blocked.
Be clear on your requests.
Be patient!
Please be prepared. Stitch gifts early! If you know you do an ornament for someone year after year, it is time to get started.
If you need help finding an ornament, please send us a theme and we will email you options. Write "Attn Bettie ornament" in subject line. in email write theme: baseball, snowman, candy can, etc.
We appreciate your patience. Please do not ask the store staff to call on any project that was sent out less than 8 weeks ago. Many vendors are taking phone calls twice a week at limited times. They will need to check with their staff
and get back to us.
Going Forward
We are still awaiting some finishing from last April! We are hoping to provide an 8 week turn around for standard pillows, stockings and ornaments; but cannot guarantee dates.
Our goal is to provide the best service to our customers.
Stay Well, Stay Safe, Be Prepared.
