Happy June Everyone!

Can you believe that it is June, and we have a few counties still in school? I know it seems crazy, but it is true. It is hard to believe that we are bringing this school year to a close. Did someone say finally? I am sure many of us thought or felt like it was never going to end. Now, we take a deep breath, pause for a moment, and begin to plan for the coming school year. Speaking of planning for the coming school year, have you registered for the annual Leadership Convention yet? If not, it is not too late. Our Family Reunion is the perfect place to network, learn, and gather new ideas to help you plan for the new school year. Our team of volunteers stands ready to engage, educate, and empower you on your PTA journey. Whether it will be your first-time or your ninety-eighth, there is always something for everyone! This year we invite you to the Family Reunion picnic. This is a free event following General Meeting II on Friday. There will be food, treats and a few giveaways; you will not want to miss it. You can find more information in this newsletter and on our website: www.floridapta.org. I look forward to "seeing" you there!

June will also bring the National PTA Convention, June 17-26. I am proud to share that Florida has 65 delegates attending! We look forward to attending and representing Florida. National PTA is electing their new officers and it will bring an end to Leslie Boggs' term as President and the installation of Anna King as the National PTA President. Guess what? The Florida PTA Leadership Convention will be one of Anna's first stops as President...cool, right?

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
As parents, grandparents, and community leaders, it is our responsibility to be examples, lead by example, teach, and have conversations with our children about diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our nation today is a very complicated and trying place. Our children are hearing and fearing day-to-day life. Whether they hear things at school, TV, or on their computers they are having to grow up very quickly. They are faced with racial divide, gender stigma, poverty and possible death of loved ones from the pandemic. We must be prepared for their questions by educating ourselves and answering questions honestly. Let’s not avoid these tough
conversations, and teach them to use their voice for good. To read this article about Talking To Your Children About Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, please click here.
Survey for Students

Please help us gain valuable information on what is important to students in the upcoming years! How can we reach more students and make sure their voices are being heard? Please fill out this survey to share your feedback.

Reading IQ
ReadingIQ: Free Access to Thousands of Books at Your Fingertips

Through a partnership with the Florida House of Representatives, Age of Learning is giving away free access to the digital library ReadingIQ to all families in the state of Florida. Because it’s a digital platform, thousands of books are as close as the nearest phone, tablet, or desktop computer.

If you don’t know the name Age of Learning, you may know its flagship digital early learning offering—ABCmouse. The company's mission is to help young children everywhere build a powerful affinity for learning and a strong foundation for lifelong success. So, when they heard about Florida’s New Worlds Reading Initiative, they raised their hand to help.

We know that kids who grow up in homes with books do better in school, academically, and in life. Reading at home builds early literacy skills and supports cognitive development. Studies show this is to be true regardless of parents’ education, occupation, or economic status.

We also know that getting books into the hands of every child can be a challenge. ReadingIQ makes it easy with thousands of books for children ages 2-12. This digital library has books that kids actually WANT to read from popular franchises like Disney, and Marvel. It also helps readers find the books they SHOULD read, books at their just right level (AR level, Guided Reading level, Lexile level, or the reading level determined by the in-app reading assessment).

To get started, go to ReadingIQ.com/NewWorlds and give thousands of books to your little readers today! Here more from Age of Learning at the Florida PTA Leadership Conference in July.
