Please note that our Return to Learn Plan is an addendum to our Student Handbook.  Please note this update to our Return to Learn Plan:

Close Contact definition
In the September 17 issue of Irish Eye, we shared with you What to Expect if the PA DOH Notifies School of Confirmed Positive COVID-19 Case.  At that time the CDC defined a close contact as someone who had been within 6 feet of an infected person for more than 15 consecutive minutes.  Yesterday, the CDC revised that definition to contact within 6 feet of an infected person for an accumulated time of 15 minutes (not consecutive).

Christmas Cash is Back!
In order to maintain the lowest tuition fee possible, each family is asked to participate in 2 fundraisers per year (actual cost per pupil is over $10,000.00).

YC Christmas Cash calendars are being sold for $25 now through October 30.  Each calendar purchased will have a four-digit number and will enter the buyer in a daily drawing for the month of December.  Each day of December has a different payout assigned.  When we pull a purchaser's calendar number on a specific date in December, they will win the amount noted on that date (we are not using PA Lottery numbers).  Every purchaser has 31 chances to win, coordinating with the 31 days of the month.  Winners will be posted on the YC website at www.yorkcatholic.org, and will be notified by email.  The winner does not need to be present to win.  Winning amounts will be mailed weekly

All orders will be placed online this year.  Click HERE to place your order.  Numbered calendars labeled with the purchaser's name will be sent home to the selling family for distribution after November 2.  Parents will be notified via email when calendars are being sent home.

If you have any questions about the YC Christmas Cash calendar raffle, please contact Mrs. Gick at [email protected] or 717-846-8871 x317.

Thank you in advance for making this a successful fall fundraiser!
Thanksgiving Food Collection
The November mission collection will be our annual food contribution to the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry.   Each homeroom is asked to donate a turkey and canned goods for a Thanksgiving dinner to the Food Pantry.  No cash donations can be collected this year due to COVID-19.  Items should be stored in each homeroom until Monday, November 9.  Please do not bring frozen turkeys until November 9.

The following are items needed:
  • Canned green beans
  • Boxed stuffing
  • Boxed desserts (brownies, lemon bars, pumpkin bars, etc.)
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Frozen turkey
Thank you for helping to make a family's Thanksgiving dinner a special one this year.
Graduation Preparation
Dear Parents of YC Seniors,

It is hard to believe we are fast approaching the end of the first quarter during your senior's last year of high school.  Believe it or not, preparations are already underway for the Baccalaureate and Graduation celebration in May.  We are writing with two specific updates in this regard.

First, we have emailed all of the students asking them to enter size information in a Google form in preparation for their cap and gown orders.  We ask the ladies to add approximately 2" to their measured height to allow for high heels, unless they plan to wear flat shoes.

Second, in your November 10, 2020 tuition statement you will find an additional graduation fee charge.  In order to assist with the expenses associated with all of the planned activities surrounding Graduation, there is a nominal fee of $70.00 for each senior.  This fee includes a cap and gown, diploma, and a professional 5" x 7" photo of your graduate on stage during the conferral of his/her diploma.

Thank you in advance for your attention to these first steps toward the important celebration of your child's years of success at York Catholic

Sincerely,

Katie Seufert '96

Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 12, from 3:30-5:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM.  We encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity to talk with teachers about their student's progress or course of study.  To schedule conferences, please click here If you have difficulty navigating the website, please contact Mrs. Deb Gingerich at [email protected] and she will be happy to assist you.  In the event a teacher's online conference schedule is full, please email the teacher directly to request a conference time. We recommend you schedule without delay as conference slots fill quickly.  Mask protocol and social distancing will be observed.
One Call Now Text Opt-in
In preparation for the colder months ahead, we have updated our "One Call Now" Emergency Notification System.  In the event our school schedule is adjusted due to weather, a phone call and an email will be sent to the contact information we have on file.

A text option is also available.  If you opted-in to receive text messages last school year, you do not need to do anything additional.  If you would like to begin receiving text messages this year, you must "opt-in" to receive text notification.

To do so, text the word ALERT to the number 22300.  Do not include any words other than the word ALERT.

After doing so, you will no longer receive a phone call at that number and will only receive a text message.

If you do not want to receive text notification, you do not have to do anything.  Your phone number and email address from our Vision system have automatically been entered into the One Call Now system.
Personal Information Changes
If students or parents make changes to personal information throughout the year (name, address, phone number, email address, emergency contact, etc.), the following steps must be taken to fully notify York Catholic of the changes:

VISION
If you need assistance with your Vision account, please contact Deb Gingerich at [email protected] or 717-846-8871 x319.

CONSTANT CONTACT
York Catholic's emails to parents are sent through a service called Constant Contact.  If you currently receive emails from York Catholic (i.e., Irish Eye e-newsletter, etc.), there is a link at the bottom of each email you receive that allows you to edit your Constant Contact profile.  Click on:  Update Profile/Email Address.

If you do not receive York Catholic emails, go to www.yorkcatholic.org and scroll to the bottom right and click on the Subscribe button in the Email Sign-up section.  Questions?  Contact:  Lori Keith at [email protected] or 717-846-8871 x318.

FACTS
Families can access their account online to make the necessary changes to personal information. Families also have the option to call the FACTS Parent Help Center at 866-441-4637 which is available 24 hours a day.
All Souls Day - Commemoration of the Dead
In the heritage of the Roman Catholic Church, November 2 has been set aside as a day when we remind ourselves to pray for those who "have gone before us, marked with the sign of faith."  The entire month of November is then dedicated to pray for them and for the healing of memories in their regard.  YC families are invited to submit the names of deceased loved ones to be remembered in prayer throughout the month of November.  Their names will be placed on the altar in the chapel and commemorated during Mass.  Please email the names to us at [email protected] and we will be sure to add them to those already in the chapel.
College Financial Aid Night
College Financial Aid Night is planned for families on Thursday, November 5, at 6:30 PM at YC.  Ms. Diona Brown from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) will speak about all aspects of financial aid including state and federal grants, loans, work-study, and scholarships.  She will speak on financial aid for all students regardless of which college they plan to attend.  The evening will also include information about completing the FAFSA application for college financial aid.  Parents and students who have not yet had the experience of completing the state and federal financial aid forms will find the information extremely valuable. While this presentation is geared toward parents, students are welcome to accompany their parents to get an understanding and appreciation of the financial obligation of a college education.  Mask protocol, social distancing, and capacity guidelines will be observed. To register, contact Ms. Kathryn Dill at 717-846-8871 x354 or [email protected]
Senior Pictures
Each year YC enters into a contract with a professional photographer, Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch, for the senior pictures appearing in our yearbook, ROSA MYSTICA.  All senior yearbook photos must be taken by Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch.  Pictures from any other photographer cannot be accepted for the yearbook.  Senior parents who have not yet been photographed, will be receiving mailed information from Prestige Portraits by Lifetouch with instructions regarding guidelines and the scheduled date and time of your student's senior picture in the air conditioned YC cafeteria (NEW DATE!  October 31).  Please arrive prior to your scheduled appointment so you are ready for your assigned time.  If you have not received a postcard, please call Lifetouch at 1-800-445-1189.

Every senior must get their picture taken, however, seniors are under no obligation to purchase the photo.  If desired, students can purchase yearbook photo packages from Lifetouch.  Lifetouch contributes a portion of package purchases back to York Catholic.

Please observe the following guidelines regarding appearance for photos.  All gentlemen must be clean shaven and wear a dress shirt, tie, and sport coat or suit jacket. Hair must be regulation length.  No piercings are allowed. Ladies will be provided with a black shoulder drape for photos. Only necklaces and earrings are allowed for the yearbook picture of the young women.  Please remove any facial jewelry.

If you have any questions, please contact Lifetouch at 1-800-445-1189.

Failure to complete the online paperwork by the deadline will mean the student will not be permitted to practice the first day of the season.  For some sports, this could mean the student will not make the team.

If you need technical assistance with PlanetHS, email [email protected].

Physicals
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, OSS Health is conducting sports physicals in a different way this school year.  Instead of having exclusive dates for each high school for all sports, Winter athletes only are encouraged to schedule a visit during regular office hours at any of the 3 OSS locations:  1855 Powder Mill Rd in York, 470 Eisenhower Dr in Hanover, or 856 Century Dr in Mechanicsburg.  Call 717-848-4800 to schedule an appointment.  Cost is $15 and a legal parent/guardian should accompany the student-athlete.  Please click here for the OSS flyer for more information.

Please be sure to complete the medical information online at www.planeths.com before arriving and only print the 2 pages indicated for the doctor to review and complete.  Please note sports physicals may also be conducted by your private physician or at a local urgent care center.  Co-payments apply.  Physicals must be completed and uploaded to www.planeths.com no later than November 11 at 3 PM.  If you have any questions, please contact Josh Cross at [email protected] or 717-836-8871 x330.

Practices Begin
All winter sports teams will begin practices Friday, November 20.  For exact practice times, contact the head coach or Josh Cross at [email protected] or 717-846-8871 x330.
