Head Coach Wanted
Davis Aquatic Masters
Davis Aquatic Masters (DAM) is committed to finding a coach who can carry on the great tradition and mission of our nearly 50 year-old club. DAM has been recognized in the past as USMS Club of the Year (2011), awarded the USMS Coach of the Year (1990, 2012), won the Pacific Masters Distinguished Service Award (2001), and earned a Long-Distance National Championship (2019). These honors confirm our long history of excellent coaches and dedicated swimmers. DAM boasts a membership of over 500 people and typically offers 48 one-hour, coached practices per week.
In addition to seeking a Head Coach, the club will begin a search for an Assistant Head Coach, as well as an Administrative/Office Manager, after the new Head Coach is in place. The preferred start date is June 1, 2022. Applications received prior to March 1, 2022, will be given first consideration. Job listing. To apply, submit a letter of interest, a coaching philosophy statement, resume, and letters of reference from three professional colleagues, with contact information for each, before March 1, 2022.

It's Never Too Late to Learn How to Swim
Masters Swimming attracts a diverse pool of swimmers. One lane can have nationally ranked swimmers, and a few lanes over there can be swimmers who have learned how to swim a year or two ago. Masters Swimming makes it clear that it's never too late to learn how to swim and enjoy the benefits of exercise in the water.
The editors of the Update are inspired by this story of Vijaya Srivastava, a Bay Area resident who decided to learn how to swim at 68 on the recommendation from her doctor that it would be good for her health. She invited a friend to join her, and together they conquered their fears: of drowning; of trying something new; of not being able to touch the bottom.
It's intimidating to try something new, but the rewards of overcoming this challenge are great. If you know someone who might need a nudge to get in the pool, or take on any sort of new challenge, this interview with Srivastava that appeared in the New York Times as part of their "It's Never Too Late" series might offer them the inspiration they need to get started.
