Research, Resources and Updates 
  • LGBT Policy Spotlight: Identity Documents Laws and Policies
    Movement Advancement Project has released a new report examining the state laws and policies that regarding how transgender people can correct the name and gender marker on their identity documents so that those documents match the gender the person lives every day. 
  • The Source Codes of Foundation Culture
    Grantmakers for Effective Organziations (GEO) has released a report on the culture of foundations that examines the importance of creating and nurturing an organizational culture that enables grantmakers to be most effective. 
  • Will Munro fund to help queer Ontarians with Cancer
    In Toronto, a new fund has been established at the 519, Toronto's LGBT Community Centre, to honor Will Munro - a local artist, restauranteur, DJ, youth counsellor, and party promoter - and provide short-term emergency relief for LGBT people in Ontario fighting cancer.
Requests for Proposals
  • The Lesbian Health Fund (LHF), a program of GLMA, is currently accepting proposals for research on lesbian health. LHF grants range from $500 - $10,000. Many applications are for small projects structured to provide pilot data for subsequent research. The deadline to submit is February 1, 2016.  For more information about the 2015 grants and to apply,  click here.
  • The Hill-Snowdon Foundation has created a three year grantmaking and strategic co-funding initiative that seeks to maximize this historic moment to begin building long term institutional and political power for Black social change and racial justice. To learn more about the MBLM initiative, click here. To complete the Request for Information Survey, click hereSurveys must be completed  by November 23rd, 2015. 
  • The LGBT Community Fund is asking for RFLOIs. This Request for Letters of Inquiry specifies areas of focus and the types of grants that will be made, requirements for proposals that will be submitted, and an initial set of grant application procedures. Completed Letters of Inquiry applications must be received by 11:59PM CST on December 16, 2015 on the Chicago Community Trust Grant Central system.   • Perceptions Receives Arts Grant
    Midland Area Community Foundation has given a grant of $10K to Perceptions to help fund the creation of an inclusive and diverse choir.
  • 2015 Social Justice Grants
    The Next Generation Giving Project and the Portland Social Justice Project have collectively raised over $200K for social justice organizations, including two LGBT organizations, NCBI Missoula and PFLAG Portland Black Chapter.

David has been appointed the CEO of Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers. David currently serves as the President and CEO of Florida Philanthropic Network and has been involved with the work of regional association of grantmakers (RAs) for the past 20 years. Way to go, David!

Joy Messinger
Joy Messinger is excited to be joining Third Wave Fund and its work to build and support youth-led gender justice activism across the country. Most recently Joy was an independent nonprofit consultant and sexuality educator, adjunct instructor on social work practice with LGBTQ communities, freelance writer on transnational adoption and adoptee issues, and Deputy Director at the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health. Way to go, Joy!
