2020 Seniors Reflect
As the school year rolls ever-closer to graduation, members of the Senior class will share some thoughts about what EAA has meant to them and what they will miss once graduation is over and they are alumni.

"I'm going to miss all the friends I made and memories with them at sports, events and school." Ethan Aquilina - ASB President
2020 National Honor Society Induction
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's oldest, largest, and most prestigious student recognition program. The four areas of standards that determine student membership are Scholarship, Leadership, Service & Character. Each student must make application to the committee and meet the minimum requirements in each of the aforementioned areas. In addition, continued membership requires continued excellence in these criteria. Friday evening, January 17, 2020, eight students were inducted into the EAA Chapter of the NHS, presided over by sponsor, Mrs. Heather Vindel. They joined ten current NHS members in the organization.

NHS Members: Karen Alcaide, Jeremiah Domingo, Sasha High, Maxwell Moon, Danyah Morales, Rebecca Perrington, Mia Ramirez, Benjamin Rangel, Emily Seals & Caleb Washington

New inductees: Ella Cooper, Karver Gluck, Keandra Gluck, Prince Kisaka, Erin Lee, Jordan Mayes, Sofia Ramirez & Sean Sullivan

Congratulations to these excellent representatives of EAA.

Lunar New Year
One of the most important festivals for many people of Asian heritage, the Lunar New Year, began a ten-day celebration on January 25, 2020. This event, also known as Chinese New Year, Spring Festival, Seollal (Korean) or Tet Nguyen Dan (Vietnamese), is as important in the Asian culture as Christmas is in other parts of the world. It is a time when families and friends come together to give gifts and share traditional foods. Since EAA International students are so far from home and cannot be with families during this time, Pan Asia restaurant served as the location for the EAA Lunar New Year celebration on Friday, January 24, 2020. International students and sponsors shared a meal and stories of how the day is celebrated in the Asian culture.
Third Grade Explores Art in Balboa Park
The 3rd grade class learned about Persian tiles from Iran in their field trip on January 28 to the San Diego Museum of Art located in Balboa Park. After hearing about the tiles from the docents at the museum, the students were able to design and create their own geometric tiles. Special thanks to sponsors Mrs. Angeles, Mrs. Teh and Mrs. Wicks.
Docents show the students examples of the geometric designs on display at the museum.
Juniors Visit College Classes
One way to help students start thinking about college and career choice is the annual La Sierra University Experience event. Juniors were invited to attend classes in their area of interest and receive insights into what they would need in order to achieve their career goals. Along with Junior Sponsor, Ms. Diane Whitley and Principal Davis, students spent January 26 & 27 on the La Sierra Campus in Riverside, CA.
Where In The World Are EAA Alumni?
Jamey Houghton - Class of 1999

I graduated from EAA in 1999 having attended for 11 years. I graduated from Southern Adventist University with degrees in Theology and Education in 2005 and Point Loma Nazarene University in 2013 with a Masters in Ministry. I have spent two years abroad as a missionary in Pohnpei, Micronesia and Bangkok, Thailand.

After returning from Bangkok, I served as the Associate Pastor at the Hillcrest church in Bakersfield, California. After six years in Bakersfield, I transitioned to the Rocky Mountain Conference in Denver, Colorado as the head of the student evangelism department, where I served for three years. I am currently the senior pastor at the Franktown church on the south side of Denver.

In mission work and evangelism, I have been involved in projects in Southeast Asia, Southern Asia, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Africa. On occasion during my travels, I have reached out to my high school science teacher Doug Havens for advice on regions I’m working in. I’m grateful to have teachers who I can still consult 20 years after graduating.

In 2003 my wife Erin and I got married and we now have three children: daughter Callie (12) son Josh (10) and daughter Riley (7) who all attend Mile High Academy in Denver, Colorado where we live.

I am so grateful for the things I learned and experienced in my time as a student at EAA. The teachers and staff are some of the most wonderful people I have ever known. The lessons I learned in sports from men like Dick Hebbel have helped me to teach those lessons to other kids in the academies I have worked near. I have had the opportunity to coach both varsity football and basketball and share those same lessons. I’m very thankful for my time as a student at EAA—it made me a better person and had a very strong spiritual impact on my life.

The Davis Principles
Hawks Family,

There are so many great things going on at EAA! I hope you are able to enjoy many of those things as you scroll through the Hawk Headlines.

I wanted to share a verse that was particularly meaningful to me this week. Zephaniah 3:17 reads, "For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs."

I'm blown away with the many blessings that are packed into this one text. Our God is there to take care of all our needs, and to calm our fears. He is walking in our hallways and present in our classrooms. He is there to take care of our stresses and fears.

My prayer for our Hawks family is that we each take a moment to recognize His presence, and His constant delight in us, and that we claim the promise that He will carry our burdens.

Blessings,

Bill Davis
TK-12 Principal
