A NOTE FROM TEDDY IVEY
GET IT OUT!!!!
I was recently reminded through an interaction with a friend of a skillset I have and a possible part of my job at SSCC that we aren’t really utilizing that much. As Lauren and a few others will tell you, I am just fine listening to people VENT!
It has been a stressful time for a lot of folks in this community. It can be difficult to know what to do with that frustration and unfortunately it often comes out in ways we never intended. Many arguments I’ve had over the years with my family have been caused by a stressor that had nothing to do with them, but because I knew they will love me through it, I regrettably brought that anger out in the wrong way and at the wrong time. As the word “care” is in my title, I thought recently that this is a way I can care for you all that might not seem obvious at first glance.
Is your boss stressing you out and you don’t feel like you can say it to them yet? Great, say it to me. Are you dreading the trip home or to the in-laws this Easter because there is just so much work to do here? Let it out here so you can enjoy the time there. Are the kids/pets/neighbors getting on your last nerve?? Tell me everything so you can get it out in a safe space. While I may not be a social worker, I am a good listener, and I am happy to do so.
I know this may not seem like it has much to do with church at first but helping care for any part of your life that I can is church for me. It’s what I truly love to do. If you need a more direct correlation, imagine how much more meaningful a Sunday morning could be for you if you were able to breathe a little bit easier and truly listen for the Holy Spirit. So call me or set up a time to swing by the church and yell, cry, roll your eyes, punch a pillow, or whatever you need to do. Just get it out and vent during Lent!!

Transfiguration Sunday
by Teddy Ivey, Pastoral Intern
Sunday, February 27th, is Transfiguration Sunday, a day we remember Jesus’ change in appearance as he is joined by Moses and Elijah. This event is a true miracle witnessed by Peter, James, and John. As amazing as this sounds, it is not the whole story. After the transfiguration, the next day Jesus and the three disciples return down the mountain toward the valley to continue God’s work on Earth. This Sunday, we will explore how to balance the joy of mountain top experiences with the necessary work in the valley we are called to do.

Facing DOUBT. Finding FAITH.
A Sermon Series for the Season of Lent
We all have doubts. They seem to be more frequent during times of crises -- which means many of us have had plenty the last couple of years. Does God actually exist? Are my prayers really heard? Why do bad things happen to good people? Is Jesus the ONLY way? Questions are not the enemy of faith. They are the path to a deeper faith. Let us journey the wilderness of this Lenten season, exploring our questions, that we might face our doubts and find a more meaningful faith. ~ Rev. Dr. Nathan C. Brown

ASH WEDNESDAY
This upcoming Wednesday, March 2nd at 6:00 pm, we will begin the season of Lent with an Ash Wednesday Service. The service will take place both in person and via livestream. If you are joining virtually again this year, be sure to have some dirt and seeds on hand. You won't be able to receive the ashes, but we can offer another Ash Wednesday ritual for your Lenten journey. For those attending in person, there will be a light supper in Dunlap Hall, immediately following the service.
Please click on the button below to sign up, so we know how many for which to plan.

LENTEN STUDY
We will hold a virtual class based on the book Witness at the Cross (A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Friday) by Amy-Jill Levine. This course has been designed for a virtual platform (Zoom, in our case) and will be held on six consecutive Sunday nights at 5:00 pm beginning March 6th. Nathan Brown and Leslie Lady will facilitate.
“Amy-Jill Levine shows how the people at the cross each have distinct roles to play in the Gospels. For each, Jesus has a particular meaning and message and from each, we learn how those meanings and messages cross the centuries to any who would come to the cross today.”

We hope you will be able to participate. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Leslie Lady at bwlady@bellsouth.net. | |

BRUCE BRANDT
Bruce writes, "I'm an Atlanta native, born in 1948 in the original Piedmont Hospital that was located where the first Braves stadium was built in the 60s. I went to Southern Tech and studied Mechanical Engineering. My first job after graduation led me to specialize in Process Control which led me to working and living all over the US and even a 9-month assignment in England.
I've never had children and have been married 3 times. I live in Peachtree Corners with 4 cats. I'm a huge car buff, you'll see my red Mazda MX5 in the parking lot, and photographer with a web site hosting several thousand images I've shot of sports car racing and Concours. I've also been known to play guitar but am rather rusty at the moment."

BAPTISM AND BELONGING CLASS
Lent is typically a time of preparation for baptism. In the Disciples tradition, we usually baptize children during the time of 3rd-6th grade. If your child is interested in exploring an Easter Baptism, we hope you'll consider joining us for our Baptism and Belonging class led by Rev. Nathan. Dates for our class will become available as we find a time that works best for the children involved.
This is really just a chance for your child to learn more about baptism. By coming to the class, by no means does that mean your child has to be baptized this year. We really want your child to feel comfortable and understand what it means before making such an important decision. Parents are also welcome to join us for the class. After the class, we can talk more about whether you all are ready for baptism on Easter Sunday. You can email Bryant & Katie at youth@sandyspringscc.org for more information or to secure a spot for your child.
Also, in the Disciples of Christ Church, if you haven't been baptized, you are always welcome. If you have questions about baptism. Please contact Rev. Nathan at nathan@sandyspringscc.org or call the church office.

Re:loom welcomes donations of clean fabric (worn, stained, etc. is not a problem), scissors, sewing supplies, and more. they do not accept upholstery fabric. Please contact Milt Hill, 770-241-6435 or milthill@comcast.net with any questions. Donated goods may be dropped at our church in the basket in the supply room (next to the copy room).

LET'S RECYCLE!
As you know, SSCC has the designation of being a Green Chalice Church from the DOC. You may have noticed we have placed scratch pads in the pews for the artists in attendance (so offering envelopes don't get doodled on). In addition we would appreciate recycling your bulletin and/or Welcome Card (if you didn't fill it out). We can actually reuse the Welcome Cards, saving not only trees, but money in copying costs. Thank you for your help!
