Charlotte Writers Club, March 15, 2022
Meeting Recap:
In Case You Missed it:
On Tuesday evening, chat was lively on Zoom and at the Tyvola Senior Center.

On site, sixteen got to know each other better during social time and 29 Zoomed in. We welcomed four new members online and on site, we connected with a new author, got better acquainted with new members and a newcomer to Charlotte. We also welcomed back long-time members we haven't seen for awhile.

CWC took another step forward into the technical world--unveiling a spiffy new projector and adding microphones to the original the immediate past president, Debra S. Wallin, brings to meetings and we use for Open Mic Night.

A big thank you to Dave Collins and John McGillicuddy for their time finding and testing equipment. to Candi and her senior center staff and Debra for overseeing the tech portion of the meeting on site while Axel Dahlberg made sure we were on the same page with our members and guests online.

During the Meeting....

Month Number Three of CWC's 100th Year!

President Caroline Kane Kenna recognized new members & guests. She announced that meetings in April and May will begin at 6:45 pm because agendas for both months will include speakers and celebrating contest winners.

Caroline and David Collins,VP/President Elect announced plans for the May 22nd Centennial Sunday, Workshop & Gala, at the Mint on Randolph Road, Charlotte.

  • Workshop, in Levy Forum, 4:30-6 pm, Ruth Moose on the short story and her CWC story, free for CWC members. $40 for non members, priming us for the evening festivities.
  • Gala, 6-9 pm. in the Atrium. Tickets are $30 per person and includes: music and conversation, noshes and drinks while perusing items from the vault—and other surprises, before our keynoter Dannye Romine Powell speaks.
  • Parking is free, access to the building is easy and you'll take home a YTD memento (champagne glass or mug) commemorating this grand affair. Bring your spouse or a friend and party like writers do!

Members can attend the workshop without staying for the gala but we hope you'll be at the Mint for both. Workshop registration and Gala ticket sales will open soon. Save your seat for the workshop, purchase Gala tickets separately. Watch the website and newsletters for more.

Darrell Horwitz, current Contest Chair on the Advisory Board spoke briefly about what he has learned in this role--He is stepping down in June. Contact him at Contests or through the Member Directory if you are interested in helping us with this program.

Caroline thanked the volunteers on the leadership team: new members, Lisa Otter Rose, our next treasurer and new program team Judy Hovis, Elizabeth Gaines, Erin Van Dreason for answering the call to serve the club. She reminded everyone that since the days of founder A.L Kimball all club leaders have been volunteers she encouraged members to consider their skill sets and to donate a year (or two of time) to this writing community.
