Calling our generation to a dynamic life in Christ

In Evangelism, we are called to BE God's light in the dark and ignored places of our world. We are to BE a faithful example of God's unconditional love. In BEING in Christ and BEING with others, we allow the Holy Spirit to work through our lives and we trust God with the results.

Through Discipleship, we journey together with other believers as we follow in the footsteps of Jesus. As we DO life together, we learn what it means to talk together, serve together, sacrifice together, fall and get back up together. We DO the hard work of becoming more like our Savior, living surrendered lives in community.

In Leadership Development, we challenge and empower youth and their leaders to GO out into their communities as models of Christ's servant leadership. We cannot afford to wait until we think we know enough; we must GO now, learning along the way.

NYI - Young Adult Ministry
Young Adult Allies, NYI sees all of you and has heard you and we want to do everything we can to keep you connected. Not just connected to us, but more importantly to God. In order to do that we need your help. If you are a recent high school graduate, 18-23 years old, or you know someone in your church that fits into that age group, please send your information to us.

We want to help you get connected to a group that will help you and challenge you to continue growing in your faith whether you are attending school far from your NWIL district family or you are working within a NWIL community.

We, your NWIL family, love you and want you to know you matter and you are needed to accomplish the goal God has set before us. So if you are a college aged student or a church leader/pastor would you please give Ronda Hollars a call or send an email with young adults (18-23)name(s) and contact information so that we can begin connecting them with resources to help them continue maturing in their faith with a body of believers surrounding them.

SDMI - Sunday School Discipleship International
"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."   Matthew 28:19-20

As you are going,
THINK BIG: Every relationship, every interaction, all inclusive.

And make disciples,
START SMALL: You. Be one. Be a Christ-like disciple. Re-present Jesus.

Baptizing them, immersing them in Jesus,
GO DEEP: Pray. Empty yourself. Sacrifice.

I am excited about Children's Bible Quizzing! This year we will be studying the book of Exodus, learning how God selected Moses to show Pharoah what a mighty God we serve! He showed how God brought about plagues to allow Moses to bring the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt to the promised land. We will learn about the incredible miracle of the parting of the Red Sea, the Ten Commandments, and how God wanted to dwell with the them in a tabernacle. Childrens Quizzing is a fantastic way to get the children to learn the Bible.

When preparing to practice, please make sure that you follow the guidelines of your church. You have options to use Facebook Live, Zoom, Google Forms, Kahoot and other online platforms if you can't meet in person. I will be happy to assist you if you need to know how to use any of them.

Here are the dates that we have put on our district calendar:
11/14/20 - First Area Quiz - Galesburg First - This quiz will probably be online. More details will follow.
02/13/21 - Second Area Quiz - Pekin First
04/17/21 - District Quiz - Eureka Grace

June date to be determined - World Quiz will be online.
It has been decided to go forward with World Quiz despite not meeting for General Assembly! More details to come!

I would be happy to answer any questions that you have and give you as much help as possible.

Blessings to all of you!

Funding the Mission
For generations, Nazarenes have supported the World Evangelism Fund. Working together, we accomplish so much as the Body of Christ. Become a part of missions work and partner with the Church of the Nazarene to make Christlike disciples in the nations. In the Funding the Mission plan, the World Evangelism Fund is the vehicle through which we deliver the message of hope - and your church drives that mission.

Crossbridge Kids
ReBoot Counselors

In March of 2020, Crossbridge Kids' was at its highest level of momentum with increased levels of attendance by regular attenders and new guests.  Each week the excitement grew as we continued to add more small groups.  Then shelter-in-place hit, and our ministry came to a standstill.  Here are a few ideas of what the Children and Family Ministry Team at Crossbridge has done to adapt and pivot to be able to continue ministry in these unprecedented times.

First, we empowered families to do church at home with their kids.  Each week we sent out an email to every family in our database with a developmentally appropriate video lesson for preschool kids, elementary and intermediate students with family activities attached.   Next, once shelter in place was lifted, we began to reconnect with our families through home visits.  During these visits we passed out candy, water bottles, and t-shirts as a way of letting families know we were thinking about them and we cared how they were faring during such an uncertain time.  We also recorded a few seconds of time with each child in order to create videos families could connect with on our Facebook page.

Then, the last week of July we held a Reboot Camp for kids in Kindergarten - 6th grade with three goals.  We wanted to create momentum for the August 1st reopening of our in-person Children's Ministry, help kids re-acclimate to a structured setting, and to teach the gospel.  We capped each group of kids at 30 to stay within the State of Illinois' phase guidelines. Lessons were done in the church and games were played outside.  It was amazing to be able reconnect with our kids and leaders in person.  Families were excited to have something for their kids to participate in and we received really positive feedback on each child's experience.

On August 1st we rebooted our in-person Children's Ministry to find that only one-third of our kids were returning to our Ottawa Campus and even less to our Peru campus. We wanted our kids continuing to worship at home to have access to the same lessons the kids in our physical campuses were receiving.   Although the curriculum video lessons had the same Biblical content as the lessons being taught in person, we could not personalize a video as we do to the lesson each week in-person, and our kids could not connect with us as their teachers while watching a curriculum video lesson.

In a quick adapt and pivot to our new set of circumstances, on August 22nd, we launched our Crossbridge Kids YouTube channel featuring Crossbridge teachers.  This channel follows our elementary curriculum as that is our largest age group.  We used Facebook, email and text to get our families connected to our channel.  We now send out an email each week with links for a preschool video that teaches the same Biblical content as our Crossbridge elementary lesson, a link to our YouTube Channel for Elementary students, as well as a link to our Intermediate student curriculum.  This email also includes family activities that help families apply the Biblical knowledge discovered in the lesson.  Launching our YouTube channel also sets us up to seamlessly go completely remote if we are faced with another shut-down scenario.

I wish I could tell you that I have embraced every change, adaptation and new direction with a happy heart.  When our church shut down, I grieved the loss of investing in our kids, leading my team and having a sense of purpose.  I questioned if it was time for me to step down, due to a lack of direction and motivation.  Recently I have begun to use all the "new" to increase my motivation.  Knowing I must stretch myself to reach more families, has given me a new sense of direction.  Instead of feeling paralyzed by the restrictions placed upon us, I am doing my best to be motivated by them. -Rachel Donoho, Children & Family Director

Havana
Three men passed through the waters of baptism on a beautiful sun shiny day in a special service on Sunday, August 9, at the home of Donna Roat in Havana.  All baptism services are special and this one was significant because only men were baptized. The three men who were baptized showed us you are never too old or too young to be baptized.   Those baptized were as follows:

Jim Fox, age 80, was baptized by sprinkling when he was a very young child.  As a young man Jim drifted away from the church but came back to the Lord several years ago and has been a faithful member of Havana Nazarene.  He had a dream of being baptized in the Illinois River as an adult because he was not aware of his first baptism.  However, when plans were made to have a baptism service at Keith and Donna Roat's pool Jim decided to be a part of this special service.

Keith Roat, age 77, made a profession of faith when he was very young and when he was in high school, he joined the church.  Across the years as a farmer and a trucker Keith has always tried to be Christlike in all of his business dealings with others.  When a baptism service was brought to his home Keith decided to take part in this celebration of his faith.

Dorrien Mapes, age 22, has been contemplating baptism for around three years.  He made a profession of faith when he was a very young child and does not remember a time when he was not a Christian.  On his last Sunday before going as a transfer student to ONU Dorrien passed through the waters of baptism.

Roseville
The new roof on the the Roseville church has been completed by our Amish friends in the Roseville Community.  Thomas Lee and his crew at Lee's Superior Roofing & Coatings have done an excellent job tearing off two layers of shingles and installing a new metal roof along with new fascia, soffit, and gutters.  Thanks to them for their hard work! -Pastor Mark Johnson
Wyoming
On March 22nd, 2020, six incredible spirit filled and spirit led folks at Wyoming Church of the Nazarene began to POUR Hope, Encouragement and tremendous amounts of love into their community! They began to make meals twice a week and serve them up for free and to this day of writing August 20, 2020, they have blessed people with 3,447 meals served!! They served their last meal on August 12th.

I need to tell you as their interim pastor and the senior pastor of an organic church this has moved me in ways I never thought possible. The community is touched and they feel this Spirit of Christian giving and I just know that when we are back to "normal" the community will never forget what our Lord provided and that He loves them SOOO much! Alicia, Debbie, Melissa, Marilyn, Joe and last but certainly not least Peggy you are the closet to Jesus with skin on I believe my heart has ever witnessed. I love you all SO much and cannot begin to thank you for listening to and obeying your Heavenly Father! -Rev. Rita Lovell

Church Multiplication Endowment Fund
Give a GIFT that doesn't stop Giving!

Would you give $1.00 a month if it never stopped giving, never wore out, never changed its usefulness or purpose and transformed lives?

How many times do we give a gift to someone only to see it discarded at a later date or discover it was never used as intended? Have you ever wanted to give a gift that would never grow old or wear out, that would always be used for good and made a difference for eternity? NOW you can!

Jesus said "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal."

Would you partner with your Northwestern Illinois District's vision to plant churches?  You might wonder how you can make a difference or even be a part. Everyone can. We need some to plant, we need everyone to pray and we need many to invest.

The Church Multiplication Endowment Fund is designed to reach unreached people living on the NWIL District for Christ. Every dollar given will continue to give in perpetuity. An endowment fund uses the interest from the principle to do kingdom work.  Will you help fund this goal?

Currently, our district property funds have been invested in planting 22 new churches these past three years and the district is in need of capital to continue to plant more! We need your help. Presently, there are 36 more potential church plants in various stages of planning which will require additional funding support.

Help us reach our GOAL of planting 300 churches by 2030.  We see 300 churches as 3,000 disciplemakers who disciple 15,000 disciples gathering with 30,000 worshippers.  Every dollar you give will continue to reach people for Christ your whole lifetime and beyond.

Would you consider a GIFT of $1.00 a month?  We are not trying to take money from your local ministry where you give your tithes and offerings. We are asking for many to give a little.  Our initial goal is 5,000 giving at least $1.00 a month. Would you be one of those 5,000 making a commitment to create a movement to plant churches that change lives?  Here are ways to give:

 1. You can give to your local church by marking your check or cash gift "NWIL CM Endowment" and your church treasurer will take it from there.

 2. You can also choose to give online if you want to set up one time or reoccurring payments using debit/credit/Electronic Check on the district website at nwilnaz.org/GIVE/ On District Church Planting or direct  CM Endowment Giving LINK. Or scan this QR code at the bottom of this article.

3. You can send a check or cash to NWIL District, 3520 Broadway St., Pekin, IL 61554 (please indicate CM Endowment on check memo)

We are also looking for those who might like to make greater kingdom investments!

You can give cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, livestock, grain, or other personal property.  Basically, any asset of marketable value can be used to help fund this endowment. There are also charitable gift annuity options that allow you to specify the endowment fund or another ministry of your choice while allowing you to receive income for your lifetime and when you pass, your gift goes to the endowment fund or specified ministry. CLICK HERE to see other ways to model generosity. Gifts can be given in memory or in honor of someone.

Large or small: Why not leave a lasting legacy that lasts more than your lifetime.
