We Want to Hear From You!

Please take a moment to answer each question as best you can. All of your answers are anonymous and cannot be traced back to you. Your answers will help guide school and community efforts to meet the needs of families and youth in Boone County. This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. At the end of the survey you will find a link to a list of several helpful local resources; places to find assistance for your family.

Congratulations, Mrs. Briedwell
Awarded $500 Grant

Congratulations to Mrs. Briedwell, Hallsville Primary & Intermediate Media Center Specialist, for receiving a $500 grant from Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation! The Foundation provided a minimum of 112 $500 grants to Missouri teachers across the state this year to fund resources, leadership, research, or materials for the classroom. Mrs. Briedwell, the only Boone County teacher to apply this year, focused her application on exploring diversity and creating empathy by adding books to the elementary libraries that reflect a more diverse race, family situations, and culture. Mrs. Briedwell stated, “Through exposure to a variety of children’s literature I would like our students to understand unfamiliar ideas and different points of view that can lead to discussions about heritage, culture, socioeconomic status, stereotyping, and racism. Through understanding, students can become more empathetic.
The books purchased with the grant will be purposefully introduced to students during special classes as part of the curriculum. “I do not want the multicultural & diverse books to be focused solely on the fact that they are multicultural, but to be part of the library curriculum like reading a historical fiction book and introducing that genre. I, personally, want to be intentional about introducing these books, but I want the students to feel it is a natural introduction.” Thank you Mrs. Briedwell for expanding the world of our students through great literature!

Supporting our Students

Thank you to the Hallsville PTO for their $30,000 donation to purchase additional playground equipment at Hallsville Primary! The donation was presented last year to the Board of Education, and the new playground was installed at the end of last school year. The new playground structure was selected after receiving feedback from teachers who took into consideration second-grade students moving to the primary school this fall. Thank you again Hallsville PTO for your continued support of our students!
Return to School Plans
Creating a Safe Learning Environment

As we complete our first few weeks of the new school year, we would like to thank each of you for the important role you play in helping our students get back to school. The partnership between parents and schools will continue to be vital to the success of our students.

Please continue to complete the COVID-19 Preventative Parent Checklist daily and notify your child’s building level secretary if your child is going to be absent due to illness or appointments. Building level principals should be notified ifan absence is potentially related to COVID-19.

Fall Return to School Plans have been updated with additional information included in the “Nursing: Monitoring, Screening, And Triage” section.  Please take time to review the changes so that we can continue to provide a safe learning environment for our students and staff. If your family is experiencing a COVID-10 related situation, please make sure you communicate this with your child’s administration. We are all in this together!
