Dear Friends of the BABC,
With a stuffing filled thanksgiving weekend behind us it's time to reflect on November at the BABC. This month has seen fire, rain and even more Brexit Negotiations! Rest assured the British American Business Council Northern California has been busy hosting and connecting our members and doing a great job at it.
The start of the month saw the final installment of the year for the BABC Happy Hour, where Young Professionals converged on co-working space Werqwise. We welcomed many new faces to the event and courtesy of our Happy Hour wine sponsor Penfolds and our host sponsors Werqwise everyone was well accommodated. Overall this year's committee has hosted 11 successful Happy Hours and nurtured a budding network of Young Professionals, I'd like to take a moment to give thanks for their continued support.
In less than two weeks' time, the highly anticipated BABC Christmas Luncheon is happening with behind the scenes prep fully underway. As with prior years, this is not one to miss! If you are confirmed to attend keep an eye on your inbox for updates and directions.
Finally, I am also delighted to note that our BABC community continues to grow and develop as evidenced by our new and renewing members. I hope you will join me in welcoming the newest members of our vibrant and dynamic community - you will find information about them below. Please take a moment to visit their websites and contact Jo Healey if you would like to learn more.
Best,
Stephen Wares,

Welcome to the last month of the year, not to mention the last month of the decade. What a decade it has been.
Personally, I have moved from Europe back to the UK and now out to Silicon Valley. I have met The Queen, ridden in a driverless car, help set up the UK's cyber security institutions, accumulated 20 years of parenting, and voted in 4 general elections as well as 2 referendums. I look forward to what the next 10 years will bring.
Speaking of elections, you will all be aware that the UK is in its pre-election period (the last of this decade) which limits our ability - mine and the entirety of the civil service - to speak publicly until after the general election.
With that in mind, however, the safety of British Nationals abroad does not change no matter the government of the day. It is one of our core missions at the Consulate and with the holidays approaching it is the perfect opportunity to remind you all to be mindful when traveling.
A few helpful tips before you go:
- check our travel advice for the country you are visiting
- follow @FCOtravel on Twitter and like our Facebook page
- tell family and friends where you're going and leave them your contact details, insurance policy details and itinerary
- get travel insurance and make sure it covers you for any activities you are likely to do, including extreme winter sports
For more detailed check lists and additional useful links (including how to renew your passport) go to the
FCO's Travel Aware website, travel safely, and enjoy the holiday season.
