CLAUDE LAVAL AWARD RECIPIENT NAMED
Dr. Cecotti will receive $5,000 for his project, which focuses on creating a serious game in virtual reality using famous paintings.
"Thanks to fully immersive virtual reality, it is now possible to appreciate paintings as they are presented in a museum, by having the paintings in high resolution, at their real size, and in an immersive environment that can be like a museum setting,” said Dr. Cecotti. Undergraduate computer science students will play a key role in the project, researching novel computer vision algorithms for labelling automatically famous paintings.
Funding for the award is provided by a gift to the university from Mr. and Mrs. Claude C. Laval III. Special thanks to all of this year’s applicants!
