Holiday Exchange Program

For several years Heilicher third graders have participated in a field trip exchange program with third-grade students from Good Shepherd Catholic School. Before the winter holidays. students visit Good Shepherd School, and as the spring holidays approach, all students visit Beth El Synagogue. This religious exchange promotes tolerance, understanding and appreciation for one another's traditions. This year's winter field trip will take place next Thursday, December 19. Check out Ms. Steinberg's reflections on the Heilicher blog.

All-School Hanukah Extravaganza

Join us for a Hanukah Extravaganza on Friday, December 20, 2:25 p.m. when our students will become a Greek Chorus. They will narrate the Hanukah story in rhyming couplets, creating percussive harmonies to share plot lines of courage and resistance. Some will dance, all will sing, the choir will perform, and a freilich (fun) time will be had by all.

Parents, we could use some help with tear down and set up after All-School Lunch that day beginning at 12:45. If you are available to volunteer, please contact Wendy Goldberg
Heilicher Choirs at IDS Crystal Court

Our school vocal ensembles will be singing again as part of the IDS Center's 47th Annual "Holidays Under Glass Music Concert Series" on Wednesday, December 18 at 12 p.m. This will be our second performance of the season for our Heilicher choirs and will allow us to showcase 40 singers in grades 2-8 in a community outreach performance. Be sure to let your friends who work downtown know about this concert, as they can grab something to eat and hear the choir sing during the business lunch hour.
Minnesota History Center
Grades 6 and 8 Field Trip

Sixth and eighth grade students will be visiting the Minnesota History Center on Thursday, December 19, 8:20 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Students will be participating in a museum-led lesson called "They Chose Minnesota" in which students will explore the economic and political "push and pull" factors that have influenced immigration to our state and then examine trunks with cherished objects families have brought on their journey. Students will also visit the museum's many exhibits, including the new exhibit "Our Home: Native Minnesota", which highlights Dakota and Ojibwe history and culture.
