Open to All: Food Distribution Every Wednesday at The Glades Initiative

The Glades Initiative offers weekly food distribution to anyone in need. Those coming in cars are asked to line up beside the office for drive-through pick-up on Wednesdays from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come first-serve basis. 

Our staff and volunteers will wear personal protective gear as we handle and distribute the food bags. We ask that drivers and their passengers remain in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures to keep everyone safe.

Engagement Strategies for Our New Reality: Virtual Event

Join us as Prime Time hosts a virtual event to explore new and innovative ways to engage youth with meaningful social and emotional learning practices with an equity focus while engaging in fun icebreakers and games to reconnect with your colleagues. Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How our Government Segregated America - Zoom Meeting

The Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County's Fair Housing Project will be hosting acclaimed author, Richard Rothstein for a special live presentation via Zoom on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at 1:30pm. Richard Rothstein will discuss his book, Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How our Government Segregated America and the lasting impact that segregation has had on communities of color. The first 100 registrants will receive a free copy his book.

Palm Beach County Food Finder Map

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

Flipany Grab 'n Go Sites (For Ages 18 and under)

Attached is a list of locations for Grab 'n Go Feeding Sites in the Glades.

School Sites Free Meal Distribution (For Ages 18 and under)

In an effort to better streamline the distribution of free grab-and-go meals, the School District of Palm Beach County School Food Service department has consolidated the number of food distribution sites in the county to 97 beginning Tuesday, October 20. Meal distribution will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays until further notice.

In addition to the location changes, as of Thursday, October 22, and each Thursday thereafter, School Food Service will also be providing a 10 to 12-pound box of fresh fruits and vegetables in addition to the grab-and-go meals. Boxes will be provided while supplies last. All children 18 years of age and younger (22 and younger for ESE) are eligible for the free meals.

PBC CARES for Housing, Mortgage Assistance Program

Funding will provide assistance to income eligible households who are at least one-month delinquent in their first mortgage and escrow payments (PITI), late fees, attorney's fees, condominium and homeowners' association payments, special assessments, and other mortgage associated costs related to COVID-19.

Rent, Utility Assistance Application Extended to Nov 16

CARES Act rent, utility and food assistance is still available for county residents who lost wages or employment due to COVID-19. Applicants previously approved can apply for additional assistance if they have not received the maximum amount of $10K for rent and $1,200 for utilities.

PBC Community Services Department continues to accept applications for one-time food assistance thru Prepaid Visa Card. Assistance is based on household size and maximum amounts. Only one Prepaid Visa card will be given per household.

Founded by father/daughter team, Mark and Paige Bellissimo in 2009, the initiative came forward as a way to increase funding to local non-profits, following the 2008 economic crisis, at a time where donations were scarce. The impact of COVID-19 replicates the situation of 12 years ago.

If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last. 

If you are with a group of vulnerable people and need more than 20, call us first and we will do our best to help you get what you need.

PBC Outreaches Regarding Proposed Expansion for Equal Employment Protection: Virtual Presentation

The county’s current definition of “employer” protects employees and job applicants only where a person that is regularly engaged in an industry affecting commerce has 15 or more employees. Join the Office of Equal Opportunity for a virtual presentation on the proposed change to the county’s Equal Employment Ordinance to revise that definition from 15 to 5 employees.

The Palm Beach County Victim Services and Certified Rape Crisis Center staffs a 24-hour helpline, 561-833-7273, that is available every day. Advocates are available to provide immediate support to victims of crime. Because of COVID-19, some individuals are fearful or reluctant to call the helpline, but residents should know that precautions are utilized to ensure the safety of victims and staff while services are provided.

Research Study, Stress Reduction and Nutritional Coaching for Family Caregivers of Older Adults

Researchers at Florida Atlantic University College of Nursing are a offering free 8-week program of free stress reduction and nutritional coaching. The purpose of this research project is to 1) develop and pilot a telehealth coaching intervention for family caregivers (FCGs) to decrease stress and increase FCGs access to support and 2) improve the diet and nutritional status of caregivers and older adults (OAs) with dementia.

This study is currently enrolling participants and can begin within two weeks of enrollment. The coaching is held via phone or internet meetings. There will not be in person meetings. Participants will receive samples of protein snacks, a Stress Reduction Booklet, and a Publix $25 gift card.
