Rector's Ramblings

The election of a bishop is an interesting process. It is not linear, and it is much more nuanced than a typical executive search, or even a search for a parish rector. The spiritual aspect of discernment involved is difficult to describe, yet it is palpable.  Somehow, in the end, despite the imperfections of the process and the people involved, the Holy Spirit does her work. The Spirit blows through a diocese, through its convention, through its people, and we elect a person. In this case, we elected The Rev. Canon Frank Logue, currently serving as Canon to the Ordinary in this diocese, to become the 11th  Bishop of Georgia.

I am pleased with the outcome. I consider Frank to be a friend. I also consider The Rev. Lonnie Lacy to be a good a friend, and so while I am happy for Frank and the diocese, I grieve for Lonnie at the same time, as one who affirmed his participation in this process. I don't know the other three candidates as well; still, I know enough to know each of them could have served as our next bishop, and each of them is processing the emotions that come as a result of not being elected.

Thanksgiving Basket CollectionThanksgivingBaskets
The annual collection of food for Thanksgiving food baskets for twenty-three needy families in our community continues this weekend, November 23-24. The final date for food collection is November 26, by 9:00 am. Chair Jeannie Wade asks that you bring non-perishable food items to services at St. Ignatius and Christ Church. Monetary donations are welcome, too, as they will help to purchase a turkey for each basket. Make your check to Christ Church, Frederica and note that it is for Thanksgiving baskets. Checks may be placed in the collection at each service. Food items may also be brought to the Parish Hall on weekdays. On Tuesday, November 26, at 9:00 am, you are invited to help assemble the food baskets in the Parish Hall. Contact Jeannie Wade at  [email protected]  to get more information or to volunteer to help collect, assemble or deliver the food baskets.

Christmas at Sea
Every year during the season of Christmas, the International Seafarers' Center spreads the love of Christ through their Christmas at Sea program. About 1500 seafarers travel through the port of Brunswick from Thanksgiving to January 7th and the Center hopes to give every seafarer a Christmas present.

If you'd like to be part of this ministry, it's as easy as filling a clear plastic shoebox or ditty bag with 12 - 15 item from the list found  here and bringing it to either the church office in the Parish Hall, or to the International Seafarers Center, at 307 Newcastle Street in Brunswick.
Christ Church Comforters Watch Caps
In addition to their many other projects, the Christ Church Comforters have been creating beautiful knit caps in various sizes. If you are planning to make a box for the International Seafarers Center - Christmas at Sea program, knit caps in adults sizes, made by the Comforters, will be available for you to add to your box. If you'd like a cap, please contact Mtr. Ashton at [email protected] or Gay Barron at [email protected].
Help Children at Burroughs Molette Whenever You Buy Groceries at Harris Teeter
You can help Burroughs Molette Elementary School every time you shop at Harris Teeter. Simply tell your cashier (during check-out) that you want Burroughs Molette's account number (6700) linked to your Harris Teeter VIC card. Once the account number is linked, every time you shop during the program, 2% of your Harris Teeter brand purchases will be contributed by Harris Teeter to the school. It's that easy!
Help Needed In Martha's GuildMarthasGuild
Christ Church friends --Martha's Guild needs you! We are a small service group, dedicated to preparing and serving food at receptions for the bereaved families and friends of those whose funerals are held at Christ Church. Over time, our small band has become a little too small, so we are eagerly recruiting new members now. It is so easy and so rewarding. Teams are called on for two months at a time and asked to bring finger foods like tea sandwiches, deviled eggs, fruit or cheese trays, cookies, or you may tell us what you like to make. If you would like to serve your church family in this way, please contact Angie Burns at 912-638-2717 or Mtr. Ashton at  [email protected]
The ECW Tour of Homes Needs You Now!
Last spring, 29 agencies primarily serving women and children in need, benefited from ECW's Annual Tour of Homes, and from the sale of our Christ Church Cookbook. This fall, we again are asking for generous donations that will help in so many lives. We look to our church family, and beyond, to make it happen. If you'd like to be a patron or volunteer on Tour Day, March 21, please contact Susie Henning at  [email protected]), or Tami Black at  [email protected], or visit christchurchtourofhomes.org.

Celebrating our Friends at Christ Church

Joe, McKenzie and Maidee Brown and a young friend brought drinks to be served with dinner at the Well.

When temperatures plummeted from 81 to 37 degrees in less than 24 hour hours last week, the Brown family joined concerned folks from all over Glynn County to make sure that our homeless residents would have a safe, warm place to spend the night. Donations of food, drinks, coats, blankets, gloves and scarves poured into The Well and the Sparrow's Nest. Volunteers stepped up to the occasion and stayed throughout the night and into the morning. Forty-five plus men and women were very well fed and warm that frigid night! Find out more about Faithworks programs like The Well here.
