GSJC Back-to-School Ice Cream Social

We're kicking off the semester with an ice cream social on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 3-4:30 p.m. on the west lawn outside Hamilton Hall. Connect with fellow students and faculty, get involved with student organizations, enjoy ice cream and win prizes like a $10 Target gift card! Remarks and trivia begin at 3:45 p.m. See you there!
Network and learn at the Greenlee Summit - Sept. 5-6
Network with communications industry professionals and discover strategies for promoting civility in social media, news, public relations, advertising – and your daily interactions – at the 2019 Greenlee Summit: Communications and Civility in Our Democracy.

S.E. Cupp, conservative political commentator, author and host of CNN's Unfiltered will kick off the Summit with a keynote at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 in the Memorial Union Great Hall.

Leslie Gaines-Ross, Chief Reputation Strategist for global public relations firm Weber Shandwick, will present findings from Civility in America: A Nationwide Survey at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. Breakout sessions and moderated discussions led by nationally recognized professionals will take place throughout the day Friday.

All sessions are free for students, and registration is not required for students. See website for full schedule.
Save the Date: Futures Forum - Oct. 3, 2019
Joel Davis, Greenlee School alumnus and Vice President/General Manager at WRAL TV and WRAZ TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, will share career and networking advice for students at the Greenlee School’s 2019 Futures Forum at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019. The lecture will be located in the Memorial Union Campanile Room.
Jump-Start Internship and Networking Fair - Oct. 1, 2019
Hosted by the Greenlee School, this boutique-style internship and networking fair connects relevant employers with students who are preparing for careers in advertising, journalism, public relations, communications and other related fields. It is open to all Iowa State University students. Students do not need to register in advance. It will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 1 in the Memorial Union Great Hall. From tasty recipes you’ll love, to the more serious ways that food impacts our lives, we want to open up a discussion about the most basic reflections of ourselves. Our food choices not only impact our lives, but also tell a story about who we are!

On-Campus PR Opportunity
The Office of the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion is seeking a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Communications and Public Relations Intern.

  • Work with VPDI team to design a civility campaign for Iowa State University, incorporating elements from various pitches
  • Implement communications and public relations elements of civility campaign
  • Coordinate outreach and collaboration with campus and community partners
  • Attend related events and create content (written and media) that can be distributed to inform the public
  • Identify opportunities to maximize the impact and reach of the civility campaign

The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, creative thinking, collaborative approach.
