Greetings!
A few weeks ago, I visited the small town of Rainelle, West Virginia, where I attended a dedication for the home of Wayne and Priscilla Woodrum and their children. Their new, strong, 3-bedroom house is now elevated far above the flood danger zone. After a joyful dedication ceremony, Wayne took me on a tour of his new home, and the tour culminated with a view from the back deck of the beautiful mountain vista.
I watched Wayne’s face relax, and I thought of the beloved Psalm 121:1,
“I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from?”
I was reminded once again how MDS volunteers literally and figuratively elevate people’s homes—and also their spirits. The volunteers who worked on the Woodrum’s home helped restore hope for that family, a hope that was reflected in the beautiful God-given landscape that shone as we stood there.
In this issue of On the Level, you’ll read about other homes that have withstood the test of disasters, and held up with hope. And be sure to check out our fall and winter schedule, now open for weekly volunteers who want to serve with MDS. Thanks be to God!
